A Petland just opened in my area and it seems like everyone I know has gotten a puppy from there..including myself. I have a female lapso-apso Pekingese who was born in February. My aunt and uncle got two dogs from there about ten years ago and they have had no problems. They give you a packet of information about your dog and after reviewing it when we brought our puppy home we saw that she had had a kidney stone operation just a few weeks before we got her. No one had said anything about this which I find a little dishonest, I can see why they wouldn't tell you if they think you wouldn't want the puppy then, but that wouldn't have been our case. After talking to our vet we found out it should be no problem but it did make us question Petland a little. They give tons of information about training and a hotline number which would be very helpful if this is your first dog. Their prices aren't horrible but if you are not completely set on a puppy or a certain breed I would check out local kennels, they are a lot more affordable and you feel better about helping a dog that really needs it. Good Luck!! =)

Absolutely not!
Petland gets its puppies from puppy mills and breeders who overbreed. This not only results in genetically inferior puppies. (They are at much higher risk for any defect because they breed females with their sons and brothers, so the likelihood of a problem increases greatly.)
The puppy mills, and a lot of breeders also treat the dogs terribly. These dogs are not pets, they don't have a nice life running and playing - they live in urine and feces filled cages barely big enough to turn around in. Their fur is matted, and they are painfully thin from constantly being pregnant.
Even if you want a pure bred dog, go to your local humane society or rescue group for that particular breed. They have dogs who are everything you could want, plus you're not supporting the horrors of mass produced puppies.
Another GREAT place to find the dog you're looking for is: PETFINDERS.COM.
Good luck finding a new best friend!!

There are so many perfectly fine animals in shelters that need a good home - don't support puppy mills by buying from a pet store!

pet store pups are not only from puppy mills and most likely unhealthy, but also typically overpriced as well.
petlands can be independently owned, and so the quality will very from store to store. there was a poster above who had typically good experiences at her local store, but unless you ask specifically about the one you're interested in, who knows.
follow everyone's advice and look at shelters, petfinder, and breeders. good luck

I agree. Never by from one of the chain petstores. They get there puppies from puppy mills. These dogs have a high chance of having problems. You are better off going straight to the breader or the local animal shelter.

Don't buy a pup from a pet store! Get one from a shelter, they will die if they don't get a good home. If you're determined to get a purebred go with a breeder.

At our Petco, we have animals that have been abandoned, or sent to the shelters. It is so much better to go to the Animal Control and pick an animal, and save it's life.
