Before you spew ignorance and make yourself look a fool you need to do some research. I'm not saying you have to be Christian and just trust it, but come on dude, I know there are better arguments for your side. This is half researched and you will discover that by all the answers.

According to the Bible God was building up a complete society which He called the Kingdom of God. With each new convenant through the history He offered more regulations of how a society is to work. When there were people that were inflicting a punishment far beyond what the crime deserved, God helped the Jews recognize that a just and merciful society does not give more punishment than is due.

In the Gospels Jesus said that it was done like this because of the hardness of the hearts of men. They could not instantly take the fullness of the Kingdom. They had to start slow and let it be revealed at the correct time.

So with Jesus there was a fulfillment of the old law. It was lacking something in the 'eye for an eye' law. It was a bit incomplete. To put it in democratic terms, 'the law needed a bit of amending to be better for the society.'

So the fulfillment that men could not accept right away was the turn the other cheek to your enemy. It is not a contradiction of God but just a demonstration that God has revealed Himself over time. God is revelatory.

To bring back the Democracy analogy. What you are proposing as contridiction would me be proposing that American law contradicts itself because at one time woman could not vote then later the law allowed them to vote.

This is not a contradiction because they weren't present simultaneously. It was one law which became another. The analogy isn't perfect, but so far as the contradiction you propose I aim to show you that it doesn't hold in this situation.

There are much better arguments out there. This one is easily handled even if you aren't a Bible believer. The logical answer makes your illogical question look quite a bit ill-informed and silly.

It appears that you are ignorant of what the Bible says, so let me show you.

Mat 5:38-39
(38) Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
(39) But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Jesus used the phrase "ye have heard" at the beginning of the statement, thus implying that they were in error. And he begins the very next statement with the word "but" which means that something is wrong and there is a contradiction. Sisnce Jesus is always right when He says that we should turn the other cheek, that is what we should do. Jesus told the people that it was wrong to seek revenge.

(Rom 12:19) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

You seem to be provocating. But I am going to tell you somenthing about. You must know that in the Bible we have the Old Testament, that means a old covenant that God made with Abrhaam and his descendents and the New Testament that means the New Covenant that God made with us through Jesus Christ. So, The Old Testament says "eye for an eye" but Jesus came and without descredit the Old Testament said, it is better if you turn the other cheek.
So in Jesus we have an interpretation of God's Grace, in which everyone who believes in Him can be saved from his/her sins. Like probably you do.
God Bless you and have mercy on you for the expression "buy bull" that surely is irreverent if you meant the Bible.

Lex talonis (an eye for an eye) appears in the Old Testament. It was, in part, a way to measure and limit the response to wrongs done. In other words, an eye for an eye represented the maximum amount of damages which could be claimed--if you broke someone's favorite chair, he could not claim your life in retailiation.

The principle of turning the other cheek appears in the New Testament. One who lives by this prinicple trusts that God will repay the evildoer as appropriate and seeks in the meantime to provide a positive example. Because Christ fulfilled the old law by His life and death, the new law (the New Testament) is now in effect.

Well, yes that is true what your saying, anyone can use the bible or the words in there as a loaded weapon, sad but true ( like mettallica says). But if you care to, lend me a moment of your time. You see, you need to understand a couple of basic things. First of all, people have always been rebells, its not just our society today.
And God had to give to people some rules, once again its, sad but true ! So when God put forth some rules, or laws, or as they are called in the bible, covenants, he had to do it more than one time , the reason for this is because it just didn't seem like anybody was getting it straight, right. So he did he gave like 8 or 9 sets of rules or laws or as it says in the bible, covenants. Jesus happens to be the final and everlasting one. So when Jesus came onto the scene, (just look at tour calender to know when) , he came to give us a type of freeedom from all these rules and laws and things that people just weren't getting. He actually came to help us out, to make it easier for us. Honestly he did, and it is.

This saying is from Matthew, a disciple of Jesus, quoting Jesus...

Mat 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
Mat 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

In the Law that God gave Moses, it is commanded to return each thing exactly, good or bad.

Christ, however, chose to see and teach the law through the commandment "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", which we are given to understand as leading us to be forgiving instead of vengeful.

Loving a person, really, is to make an atonement for them, as Christ did.

Psalm 32:1 A Psalm of David, Maschil.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

Mainworry's answer is a contradiction.

Mainworry:Turn the other cheek is when you are Proselytizing.

Proselytizing:To induce someone to convert to ones own religious faith.

Isn't that what you want Mainworry? Converts!!?
Notice he didn't answer the other part, an eye for an eye.
Even though you pointed that out to him he didn't see it. He's one of the most blind person about his religion. But he can sure come up with a quote.

It's a reflection of human moral progress.

Jesus said, "You have read this, but I tell you that" with regard to many things.

It's interesting that science used to teach and hold some things that it doesn't hold and teach anymore. It has made progress, and people have credited science for that while not holding the previous errors against it.

But many of these same people will not extend the same courtesy and fair treatment to the Bible.

It allows science to progress and to admit that previous things were not correct -- but doesn't allow the Bible's accounts of human moral progress the same thing. Why is that???

Jesus answers that in Matthew 5:38-39. But I'll let you look that one up for yourself since you know so much about the "buy bull."
Next time, do your homework first.
