Is there any commonly believed record of this?

XM, I'm not quite so sure I agree with you on atheism. I feel that an atheist is somebody that rejects the idea of a god, which is still saying that he does not know, but that it makes no sense to him that there is a God. That's where I fall. An agnostic to me is somebody who doesn't have a deepseeded opinion one way or another, and feels the answer to the question is unknowable.

Once someone made up the idea of god(s), an atheist was born.

Actually, I don't believe anyone is an atheist. An atheist is someone who KNOWS there is no god. There is absolutely no way that this can be proven. However one can be a agnostic, which is to say that one does not know whether or not there is a god or no. A theist is one who believes in a god. The latter two are viable theories. So there was never an atheist...there were those people that called themselves that but who were not true to their beliefs.

No one, the concept of atheism is really a rejection of God not an unbelief. Simply put, an atheist is someone who states "I don't have faith in God because _____". Many reject Him because they would rather believe in Naturalism (Evolution) or Materialism (Money/Wealth/Greed) or they do not agree with Him. In this sense Eve was first as she accepted the words of Satan and rejected the Word of God.

Romans 1
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Psalm 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

In my opinion, we are all born atheists. We are born without the knowledge or belief of any god. Even Christians would have to believe this since they say that there are people who do not know god and have to be taught about him and since they are worried about what happens to babies that die.

It is only through upbringing that we learn about gods and religion and we usually are forced into believing what our parents taught us.

My question is, who was the first person to think up the idea of a god?

First off Satan believed in God, and loved him. They argued over how man should worship God.

The first atheist was the first conscience man. He did not know God, had no need for, God and hadn't invented the myth yet.

I'm going to guess that the first atheist was the first homo habilis who refused to cower in his cave during a thunderstorm. Recognizing that the tempest outside was not because of nature being angry, he stood defiantly at the mouth of the cave watching the lightning and thinking about fire.

If you believe in Adam & Eve, then they were because they did not know what/who god was/is. It wasn't until they were punished, as the story goes, that God revealed himself...
