The most important consideration is how it looks on you. I don't think there should be dos and donts about this. Take into consideration how much time you want to spend fussing with it and what suits you best.
My own preference is to keep it about medium length and permed because I don't like to fuss. I used to when I was much younger, but the days of teasing and hair spray are long gone. I want to be able to go in the pool and come out looking good and NOT have to restyle my hair. Every time a hairdresser tries to do my hair in a more "modern" style, it turns out badly for me. I know what's best for my hair and lifestyle and what looks best on me.
One of my determining factors is always that my hair MUST be touchable and soft.
Color is also a personal choice. I think about it, but haven't done it. Again, because I just don't like to be locked into getting touchups or going to the beauty parlor all the time. And my hair is a fairly nice salt and pepper, so it does look good. Of course, I don't have to work in an office any more. That might influence my decision. For now, though, I like it the way it is.
I do think you can have long hair at any age if it suits you and you like it. I definitely DO NOT think you should ever be a slave to current fashions. Wear your hair how YOU like it !!!!

If anyone says you SHOULD have your hair a certain way "FOR YOUR AGE" they are just jealous...that some people out in the world today don't "LOOK" the age they really are! Maybe it is just how I see it but no one should say your this or that age...so your hair should look this way or that way! Have your hair done however you want and feels comfortable to you. I say if people are worried that women or men are just trying to look younger, they really need a hobby! We should just be ourselves and if some people don't like it too bad. I have ALWAYS had people tell me that I look like I'm 13 and well, I'M NOT...lol... I have colored my hair before (to cover the gray) not because I wanted to look younger but I didn't want the gray hair either...I have had gray hair since high school, so of course I certainly DIDN'T want to have ANY gray hair! I really don't care what anyone thinks about how I look because ,someone will always be around to say something "SILLY" about the way someone else looks! How long or short we wear our hair shouldn't matter either... I agree with what Christy wrote... No should be a slave to trends and wear your hair how you like it....Everyone has their own opinion and NO ONE should change anything because of a trend if they don't want to... :-)

Older women look silly in long hair. Cause by a older age a woman usually needs to color the gray, and by not keeping it short long dyed Hair looks like ****. Also, a older women with long hair makes people think she's from the 60's.

Well I am 39 and my roots say I have no grey hair yet (yay!)...I will probably colour it for quite a while, I always have, why stop suddenly because I turn 50 or whatever? I will stop when it looks wrong for my skintone...As to length, I think maybe loooong hair looks wrong on older women, but I think a nice pageboy length, IE chin to shoulder length, keeps you feminine and soft-looking gracefully. I don't like short hair, why should I suddenly have short hair just because I am older? A woman should be free to be herself, no matter what age, as long as she looks attractive and well groomed.

Sometimes I let the gray show sometimes I color it. I do what feels right at the moment. I never let others opinions influence my choice in this matter. But I have to agree with the others, long hair on older women can make them look older or insecure(trying to hold onto youth).

fake. some human beings's hair is blonde clearly. the final public come from bottles, yet what about those organic blondes? i do not imagine they ought to bypass darker as they become old. Lighter hair makes your face look softer.

I am 41 years of age and I want my grays to come in. Short hair for those who are older because it states a sense of maturity I believe. I also think that grays show wisdom, depending on who it is

Don'ts for over 30
No crimping.
No long perms. Only short perms for that granny look.
If you dye red, make it a deep auburn red, not like Ronald McDonald.
No scrunchies.
No headbands. Those are for are 11 and youger.
No Farrah wings.
Dos for over 30.
Do go grey with pride.
Do dye your hair and keep up with it. No roots.
If you wear it long keep it trimmed.
One long braid looks nice, kinda hippyish, but nice.
Try a short do but not a manly do.

I say let it look good, no matter what the trends are today. A woman likes to be noticed for these things however so make some small changes and see how your husband reacts, he is the one who will make or break the style choice.

style your hair in a mature way that will suit your face shape and you could colour it, if u want its not for older women trying to look younger, because teens die their hair to experiment so there's nothing wrong if you want to go a little darker or a little lighter or just try something new, everyone gets bored with their hair and they want to try something new, older women can pull off longer hair just like young girls can pull of short hair, it doesn't matter about your age, so if u want to do something with it go for it if it will make you happy just make sure to treat it well with conditioners
and if u don't want to die it but bring your natural colour out try a shampoo designed for your hair colour, it does wonders hun
