I started when I was 28.At the time i was smoking, drinking and over weight,I knew a little about the honor respect thing but never put it into perspective.Started in Tae Kwon Do made it to second degree black belt before switching to Hapkido earned a third in Hapkido. In the ten years I've been in the M A people would always ask me if I ever used it I would always laugh and say no I never need to because I have been taught to keep myself away from the things and places that would give me a reason to use it.And I think back to when I first started and ask myself if I hadn't taken Martial Arts were would I be.And my answer would probably be in jail or dead.So Martial Arts has given me a life that has been better than I would have had.Had I not joined. All my friends and family agree that it has turned my life around.

Heh. I started martial arts when I was 7 years old, and definetly because of reason E. My mother claims that I was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fanatic at that age, and not long after I saw those movies, I was in karate class for the first time. After all these years though, its definetly evolved into being able to enjoy a healthier life; mentally, phyiscally, emotionally, and spiritually.

I got into martial arts because i was in a terrible car accident and my uncle 5th Dan in tae kwon do came to my house and introduced me to lots of stretching and gentle exercises(to help with my rehabilitation) that eventually led me to standard tae kwon do which lead me to Muay Thai Boxing and then Jiu Jitsu and I've never looked back, i guess i still participate in them because i can see daily growth and it's something productive to do with the normally wasted hours of a day when it's too early to go out but after you are done working. But really, martial arts serves no higher purpose than that in my life, although I do enjoy knowing that I am less vulnerable to many forms of attack in a lot of situations, since I am also 6'2" and 225 lbs and in good shape. Other than that it's just whimsicle that i continue to fork over 160 dollars a month (100 for Brazilian jiu jitsu and 60 for thai boxing). Oh well...

I'm not into martial arts but I do know that when you challenge your body physically your mind benefits from the experience. It is a matter of accomplishment. Doing things that weren't possible before. There is a great deal of satisfaction when I complete a 5K run. At one time I could run up to 14 miles without stopping. I had to remind myself the entire distance that the pain in my legs wouldn't get any worse and that I could continue. Learning this kind of discipline helps people to accomplish things in other areas of their lives and to understand that when things aren't going the greatest that they will eventually get better. It's not just for your body. It is also for your mind. Or is it the other way around?

To answer from your list I would have to choose (G).
