Once you have surrendered an animal to a shelter, it is theirs and you need to move on. What if you found out he was euthanized due to medical problems and they didn't want to upset you so they told you he was living on a farm??????? "Farm" is often a euphemism for "dead" in shelter lingo. You don't want to upset people, so you say the animal is on a farm. You don't want to find that out. Get another Dane if you are TRULY in a better situation, and just know you did what you could for the other one, alive or dead. You can't expect a shelter to treat serious illnesses long term. They can help so many animals for the cost of helping just one.

I am sure that if they had to euthanize him, it was for a good reason. I don't know what the bone problem was, but that could be it. I am sure he had a good life until then. They probably did what they could.

Your best bet at this point is to call the shelter you surrendered him to. They will have information on where he was adopted out to. Then you'll need to contact the adoptive party. If they no longer have him, you'll need to find out if they know where he went. If they do, you'll have to call those people. And continue on with your "phone tag" until you find the results you are looking for.

Because it's been such a long time, however, I wouldn't get your hopes up on finding him. It has been a long time and paper work gets lost, people give away to free homes, dogs run away and so on and so forth.

You may want to consider finding a new life you can save if you're able to handle it now. My local animal control picked up or had surrendered over 900 homeless dogs and puppies last month alone. You may never find your Grate Dane baby, but you will be able to find another dog that desperately needs the love and attention you can offer.

A good place to start looking is www.petfinder.com

Good luck in your search!!!! I hope you find him or another that could use your love.

Sorry to hear that. Do you remember what the shelter name was? Did they give you a reciept or anything? You can also look on Petfinder.com. There you will almost always find them! You could call around to different shelters or call you local animal control or police station. That MIGHT work it might NOT. Just something to try.
Best of luck to you and your dog!

I hate to say this but I have had 5 danes..the oldest living to 7. When you mentioned your dog was sick and urinating blood I have had this with 2 of mine and it was cancer both times. Danes are lovely dogs but heartbreaking because of the proneness to cancer..we have one now which is still currently healthy at 2 years but out of 5 we have lost 3 to cancer and one to heart probs from ages 2,5 and 7 years old.

The dog is most likely better off where he is. Give another dog a chance to have a loving family. You did the right thing.

Aw, well if he survived I'm sure he is with a good family now. And you wouldn't want to make them sad by taking him away from them.

There are so many unwanted dogs out there that you could take one of them in, and that would be your way of making it up to the universe.

Sorry for your problem - contact the vet and the shelter - was he microchipped? - someone has to know.

ps.. in the future, for easier reading and comprehending your questions - can you please use 'periods', 'comma's' and other proper grammar..

good luck in your search.
