The "The NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" policy. It helps some and leaves some BEHIND. For one example, my son is in 6th grade...his class was going on a study trip about wildlife and such....he couldn't go because 1 of his assignments wasnt handed in. I called the principal and told her because it was her decision, what gives you the right to deprive a child of a learning experience? How do u know that child wouldnt have been inspired to become something associated with that field? She didnt have anything to say to that. But he still couldnt go. Plus they had to have a test on what they learned that day and my son had to take it even though he wasnt there. Got graded on it and of course he got a low grade so brought his whole grade for class down. Its all about the money. A student is having problems in a certain subject oh well we have to get thru this subject or we wont get funded. Never mind they arent learning anything. Sorry its a real sore subject in my home.

Accountability of the teachers. It is almost impossible to fire a teacher, even if that teacher is completely incompetent. If there's one thing that'll help the public school system it's a system that holds teacher's accountable for their teaching and ensures that they are actually doing a good job of teaching.

In my state (IL) most of education funds come from property taxes. Of course, this gives certain districts much more funding than smaller, rural districts. We need to allocate funding equally to all students. Also, while I agree that teachers need to be better compensated (I am in education) simply paying teachers more could result in people going into teaching just because of the money, not because they really feel drawn to teach. How about tying pay to student and teacher achievement somehow, such as a bonus?

alot, the class sizes defiently im 13 and am 7th grade and theres 30-40 kids in our class and half of them arent going to 8thgrade.. :(, when smaller size in class the teacher has time to teach the subject better and the students have a betterunderstanding of what is being taught since there are less people so therefore less distractions there for more focus.also teahcers being underpaid i mean these actresees and singers get SO MUCH money when theres thousends of people who are more talented then them but get nothing i mean without teachers our minds would be empty, there would be no doctors, lawyers, priest anythign resulting in death and then end of the humen race. WHEN is everyone gonna fully understand with out teachers we would not know nething, they are so nice to teach us and yet get barely nething.people acting different from themselves on a noice big screen(actors) and people lip singing(singers) compared to people who teach us about life, politics and evrything we need to know not just eduacationm but manners and respect with out them not only would we have no knowledge but no creativity or manners or the lessons we need to know in life. its so sad to see them WAYYYYY underpaid, without them we everyone woulkd be nothing, there brains would have no knowlege, imagination, respect, manners and wisdom and pride nothing filled in our brains.

Take the CASH from all the layers of administration and non-teaching jobs and reduce class size.
GET BACK TO BASICS ! R-R-R...
The kids are there to learn those basics and not "how good you feel about being or not being gay, ethnic, or know how to paint a pretty picture, etc.etc."

Corporal Punishment.
Once they took that out of the schools (I was there when it happened), and I could tell the difference right away.
Students became in control, and they became more disruptive because there was no consequence.
