I've seen questions and answers here from people who have a hate for the Bible and God. I wonder how many here who say the Bible is a fairy tale have ever taken the time to read it? I think some of you here, the intellectually challanged ones, instead of reading the Bible, are still looking for the deeper meaning in your Marvel comic books.

It may seem like fun to give a flippant, blaphemous comment here, but one day you are going to have to stand before God and answer to Him. What are you going to tell the Lord, you don't believe in Him?

Amen, and God bless you. They just don't get it. Like I have said before, you don't have to believe it, you just have to do it. Some feel that People who have faith in God, are weak. They feel that They just can't handle the world on the their own, without believing in something. It is not understood, that chapter and verse are recited, because it is God's word, and we are not to add to, or take away from it, so we have to quote it exactly.

I witness God's works every day. And for those who have never asked, and received God's blessings, how very sad.

I am so happy someone verbalized this. Good job!

God Bless

I've read the whole Bible, cover to cover. When I got to Revelation I figure the author must have been on LSD.

All the raping, pillaging, wars, killing and barbarism of the old testament is pathetic.

I don't have a problem with Jesus. He hung out with 'prostitues', drank wine, attended huge potlucks, wasn't happy at all with the money changers in the temple. He was accepting and considerate and an egalitarian (socialist). All in all, he was about the only nice person in the whole book.

I have a really hard time with the dichotomy of his death though. Nowdays people say 'he died for our sins'. So either his 'father god' demanded that he die to save the world, just like the Mayans had human sacrifice to avenge their wrathful gods. Or Jesus chose to go to his own death... suicide?

And letting someone else take the blame for your errors is lacking in accountability. It's like..."oh I can do whatever I want and get away with it because Jesus took the rap for me".

I also have a problem with the icon of christianity... the cross, a symbol of torture & death. Ick. I like life.

Sorry, there is no supernatural 'out there somewhere' diety that is controlling everything. But there is the here and the now, so the real question is what are we going to do here and now? How do we behave? Do we spend our time generating hate or peace? Do we care and tend each other? or cause each other suffering? Is not there enough suffering in the world already? Who will be the first to begin to alleviate the suffering?

We know the maxim: "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". We make the assumption that no one is free from sin, so no one should be judging others.

Think on this: "He who is without sin has no desire to cast stones."

Yes, I have. Here is something you should know: Last year the Pew forum on Religion and Public Life conducted a survey on religious knowledge. Among Jews, Mormons, Catholics Protestants etc. the group which demonstrated the greatest religious knowledge was - you guessed it - atheists. In fact I would encourage everyone to read the Bible. I think it is important for understanding many literary references. Also, reading the Bible will result in more atheists. Many atheists are just people who have heard the various claims that a particular magic book - whether that is the Koran, Bhagavad Gita or the Bible - is so profound that it must have been divinely authored. Read those books and found the claims to be ridiculous.

Yes, I am atheist and, yes, I have read the Bible. Three times. Reading the Bible is the reason I don't believe in the Christian God. And I don't plan on standing before any gods because I am very confident in my belief that no god exists. In the unlikely event that there is a higher power, however, I am positive that it is not the Christian God and reading the Bible has taught me that. The Bible is nothing more than an adult fairy tale complete with rape and murder. All from this "loving" God.

I am a Christian. A volunteer Sunday School Superintendent and proud of it. The only reward I get from this job is the one I will receive in heaven.
I am 51 years old and have read the Holy Bible through from Genesis to Revelation several time. However I don't just read the bible. I study it.
My one desire is to stand before the Lord on judgment day and hear Him say, "enter into the joy of the Lord, good and faithful friend".

I read the Bible every day. Still hate the whole concept. Like the wise man said, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Since Christianity is the biggest enemy to free thought in my daily life, I make it a point to know as much as I can about the Bible.

I'm constantly amazed that so many people who have read it still have the stones to say they think it is a "good" or "holy" book. Errors and contradictions aside, the Bible is one of the most evil texts ever written, and the God of the Israelites is the most cruel , misogynistic, and violent being ever conceived of by man.

Only a twit would read about his atrocities and say that the Bible is about love.

YES I can honestly say I have. Cover to cover. Many people have trouble understanding the Bible. I'm one of them. BUT my wife found a computer program in a christian bookstore called SwordSearcher Bible Suite. It contains four different versions of the Holy Bible including a Hebrew version. And up to three different (meaning from different sources) interpretations of EVERY SINGLE VERSE IN THE BIBLE. This REALLY helped me to understand parts I had problems with. And with three different commentaries/takes on that particular verse, it made it a lot easier for me to draw my own conclusions. As for reading the whole Bible, I didn't do it just so that I could say I did, I did it to try to link together all those verses I have heard throughout my life so that I could put it into it's proper context for better comprehension.

Except for the page listing the ten commandments, i've never read it; however, I don't need to read it to know that all the stories it contain are justs myths. The bible belongs in a book store in the section that houses the books on greek, roman, & norse mythology. My belief is that there is no god; however, if there is, world history has proven that god can't be the "benevolent" being the christians believe it to be.

Read it in 8th grade. Don't think it's a fairy tale; think it's mostly allegorical in nature and therefore subject to many different interpretations. Agree with you about folks who spout off and have never read it. Most people would be shocked to find out how much sex there is in the Old Testament!

People who find it daunting should tackle it book by book and skip parts of books such as Leviticus, which is a lot of lists.

Peace & God bless.

Hmm, I have read the bible. I am wiccan. I believe in god. We all have a god of some sort but deep down it is the same god. My god is both male and female. Want to know more? Just look up the word wiccan and what it means to be wiccan. My main rule is to try to never hurt anyone because whatever you put out into this world whether positive or negative, will come back to you in some form. When I stand before my god, he will giveme a big hug and welcome me because my god is a forgiving god.

I have read the Bible through cover to cover at least once a year for about 27 yrs. I take it very seriously. I have also studied evidences in Science and Archeology that support the accuracy of the Bible and my faith is by no means a blind faith. I believe the Bible is God's word and is perfect. I believe it is our only guide as Christians.
