The kindest thing you can do for the cat is to take it to the animal welfare people where you live. It is in pain and they might be able to treat it.
If you can't afford to treat an animial when it is sick you shouldn't have one. I know that their is that guilt factor associated with taking the animal to the shelter but it is the best thing for it now.

First off, use a wash-cloth with very warm water and clean the kittens eyes out as often as you possibly can. Then if you can get your pharmicist to give you an opthalmic salve that has an antibiotic in it, after explaining your circumstances, put that in each eye twice a day. Meanwhile, call your local vet clinic and also explain your situation, or call several for that fact, and ask if they would at all consider giving you some antibiotics for the kitty. A lot of Clinics will do this for people in your condition at no charge. If not, write me privately. Keep the kitty very very warm, and indoors if possible. It may have distemper however, in which case it will eventually get worse no matter what you do. But I'm in hopes, that since it's a kitten, it's just down with a condition that maybe malnutrition has brought on, or parasites. And you also need to have someone go to a Co-op and get you an over the counter worm medicine for the smallest size feline.
Hope this helps

There is not a home remedy for this. A resp. infection can ba fatal if fluid is in the lungs. The eyes are infected too and need to stay clean. Talk to your local shelter about getting help to pay for the kitten to get its care. They should have a program for people with little income. If not talk to your vet about a payment plan. This kitten needs to see the vet as soon as possible to get medical attention. You can keep a luke warm cloth over the eyes if it will let you, this should loosen up anything that is causing the puss.

You do need to call someone who can take this poor little creature off your hands. Its a shame things happen, but this kitty could have all kinds of diseases that you do not know about. If your wanting to keep the kitten, the best solution to opening the eyes are using warm water on a soft type of rag and massage the eyes til they open. Do not force the eyes to open, this will cause more damage to the eyes. The reason for upper respitory could be, because the cats too young to fight off any type of infection it has, and as you stated YOU FOUND IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. It could of gotten into anything. Feed it warm soft foods for awhile and love it. Thats about all you can do. If you believe in the LORD JESUS CHRIST, pray for the little one.

Call the SPCA, tell them your situation. They have a lot of programs for the disabled and low income. The kitten really needs medical attention, there is no home remedys. He needs antibiotics and special care. You are risking not only his life but his eyesight. If you have to, do what's best and give the kitten to the SPCA.
Please do the right thing

Vets have programs that allow you to pay little by little. anyway, as for her eyes, getting something from the vet is your safest bet, but triple antibiotic ointment (such as neosporin) can work, just be very careful. Use a Q-tip to rub some around her eyes and in the corners, but not directly in. Gently open and close her eye lid to work it in. Do this 2-3 times a day. Wash her eyes with warm water whenever they start getting icky. If you can't keep them clean, she will loose her sight if she hasn't already. As for the cold, you really need oral antibiotics from a vet. All you can do is make sure she eats and drinks. If she doesn't on her own, use a dropper to give her water, and feed her human baby food (chicken, beef, etc.). She won't make it if she doesn't eat. When they can't smell, they won't eat. I would take her from you if you were close. I'm in Visalia, CA. Wish you luck! Thanks for rescuing her.

If you don't have the money to get the kitten properly taken care of, then you need to give it to someone who can. Home remedies never work and can sometimes cause more harm than good. I'm sorry for your situation, but the cat deserves to be taken care of properly.

i rescued a baby kitten that was one week old a month ago she had the same thing. boil some water and let it cool down take a piece of cotton and dip in water and wash it off! if it gets all crusty DON"T pick it off. soak it off with water. I ended up having to go to the vet! sorry. If you wait to long they could get an even worse eye infection and go blind!

Petco and Petsmart have cat adoption volunteer organizations that will hook you up with a vet that works with them. (should not cost you a thing)
Then, if you are not keeping her, they will help you find a loving home for kitty also.
I wish you both the best. You are kind for wanting to help the little furball of love.

If you are not able to care for it, call animal control and they will take it. I know it sounds harsh, but the kitten really needs vet care, or to be put out of it's misery. If I could I would take it.
