I don't think they should be allowed on cuz they are too immature and we get some asking stupid questions here. It can get bothersome. Besides, they would be protected from on-line predators at least :)

Anyone of any age could do this. Anyone of any age could have predators stalk them on the Internet. It is NOT just the ones under 18 that have problems online.

I think that it is ok for those under 18 to be on the Internet WITH parental supervision. They should be allowed to have an e-mail from about 13 on up as long as the parents check the e-mail often and check the messages to make sure that nothing 'bad' is going on. The kids may say this is a matter of privacy being broken, but when it comes to a childs safety, privacy being broken will be the least of their problems. I also think it's ok for them to be on the Internet if they are doing research (kids in grade school on up HAVE to do research online now), there are parental blocks put on the computer, and there is a time limit as to how long they can use the computer. It is also a good idea to put the computer in a heavy traffic area of the home instead of in their rooms so they can't hide anything they are saying or doing. If the young person has a problem with getting onto the computer when they aren't supposed to (late at night, more time than supposed to, etc), the monitor or disk drive can be taken away and locked up until they are allowed to use it again so they can abide by the rules.

These restrictions should help children under 18 to be safe, or at least safer, online.

Not a good idea! People under 18 should be allow on the internet, of course it will be better if their parents can supervise them and perhaps the school should start to step in to teach them the "correct" way of behaving online as part of the moral education.

If people under 18 should not be allow on the internet, aren't it abit too late for them to learn about internet after 18?
The whole online gaming industrial will probably collapse as a result of that.

Anyway, I heard that Window Vista is coming up with some supervision functions too. So, should be easier for the parents to start monitoring their children.

No. Technology is the future. How are you going to teach our nations future without internet. Did you know that by the time your in 6th grade you pretty much HAVE to have the internet to do homework? It's the parents fault if they haven't taught their kid to use the internet wisely and it's their fault if they don't watch their kid and that kid gets into trouble. Get with the 21st century you can't live in today's world and be successful without the internet no matter how old you are. I believe kids that are below 15 or 16 should be HIGHLY supervised though with blocks on certain websites. Which every school (at least where I live) does this and the parents should too.

Devilment?

People under 18 should be monitored by their PARENTS when they are on the internet. Same with television, movies, video games... The internet is a good tool for people of all ages, and it should not be the job of lawmakers to keep kids away from "devilment" when it should be their parents.

If parents were watching the kids there wouldn't be a problem with it. The Internet can be a good place to learn. It's just it seems like more and more kids are getting into trouble instead of using the Internet for resource.

No I do not feel that way. I am 52, kids have so much pressure and crap going on on the world that they must face, give them a break. If you are afraid they may happen upon a porn site or whatever, get a cyber program that monitors it. YOU monitor it. Mine is 16 and is very responsible on the Internet. Of course I am old school, grew up in the sex, drugs and rock n roll culture, so I am not easily surprised by things.

The Real problem is the parents not knowing what is going on. First of all, my kids will never, ever, ever have a computer in their room. I need to see what they are doing at all times. Also, parents can get a block on the computer and a tracer that can tell them everywhere their child goes and what they say. Parents just need to be a little more observant. I'm not finger pointing, just making a statement.

No, the sooner you learn about the internet the better. In the future it will all be about the internet. I believe that all children should be taught to use the internet from a very early age. It's up to the parents to keep them from doing the wrong things.

I think they should at least be monitored. There is alot to learn on the internet but parents need to know what there kids are doing. Too much can happend.
