The mark of the beast is the fact that people are going to worship the devil when he comes pretending to be Jesus. When one is taken away in the field and the other stays, this means that the person that is taken away because she goes to worship the false Jesus.
Revelations 13:11
"And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon."
The two horns represent power like the Lamb (Jesus). But, he spake as a dragon (devil).
Basically he looked like Jesus, but, spake like the devil. This is how people worship the devil. Because the devil is pretending to be Jesus.

The beginnings are here, a one world economy is in the works. The unification of the EU and the USA is one of the many small steps already being seen. The mark of the beast will be the plastic cards we will all have to carry one day soon instead of cash.( My opinion)

Well, because apocalyptic literature is written to describe events and persons contemporary to the writer, and because John was writing the apocalyptic piece you are probably referring to, and because 666 in Hebrew numerology fits the name of Neron Caesar (Nero), and because Neron Caesar was a contemporary of John, the mark of the beast John described was a reference to Neron Caesar, and Neron Caesar was the "beast" John referred to, and all of that happened a heck of a long time ago, so pretending that the issue is open is a HUGE waste of time.

With identity theft on the rise today it will just stand to reason the best way to beat this would to be to take a computer chip or bar code in the back of your hand to use to scan for direct deposit or to pay for gas or groceries. But it will be in such a way that the world would understand that by taking this mark would make them slaves to this evil power.

It was idolatry...the worship of the Roman Emperor. Those would did not accept this "mark" (by offering a sacrifice to the emperor as a "god") were not allowed to buy or sell, because ethey were not allowed to walk, talk, go to the zoo, or *keep breathing."
Put nothing before your faith in Jesus Christ, or you *have* accepted the "mark of the beast."

Which is...when your thumbprint or a retinal scan is used to identify you.
It is in the news today that a company called Coast to Coast in Florida has installed in their gas stations to accept your thumbprint for payment, just like your credit card...
Scary!
