My school is selling all there old computers and most of them are gateways and compaqs that run on windows 98 or windows 2000 and i was wondering if i could format there hard drives and install windows xp from a Dell windows xp reinstallation cd?

Well, my lil brother, I say Pirate if ya want to, Shhh....Just don't tell anyone....lol. I say hackers do it all the time. I personally would not know how to.

I doubt for two reasons.
1) Older machines do not have the processing power necessary for XP.
2) You Dell Original disc will probably only work with similar Dell Model Number machines.

I think so. The only problem is that Microsoft will only let you run a certain version of windows at one time on only one computer. You can put linux on it thouth.

no, you would not have a valid license, that would be pirating, and they will only work correctly on a dell, the hardware will be all wrong and they would fail activation if nothing else, don't pirate software, buy it
