I was in Vet Medicine for 15 years~! If your cat hasn't urinated in over 24 hours, and his bladder is swollen, then he is plugged~!! This means he needs attention as fast as possible or it could kill him! Male cats have a sediment in their urine which can build up and plug the urethra, in which case they need to be cathaterized to relieve the pressure. This condition can be due to diet and not much excercise. Or it can be hereditary.
Hope this helps

Although food and diet has allot to do with your kitties condition, right now it should be the least of your problems for the time being.
Did the vet do anything to help the Kittie void his bladder ?
Like someone said that the cats urethra is probably blocked and definitely needs to be cathatered, and more then likely have his bladder flushed to clean out any other potential obstructions.
Kittie also needs to be on antibiotics to try and clear up any bacterial infection.
you need to change your cats diet, his new food should have a very low amount of magnesium, this is one of the causes for a UTI.
One good food for Kittie is NUTRO , I feed mine the hair ball management chicken flavored, It is very low in magnesium
Getting back to the blockage, If your cat hasn't taken a wizz and his bladder becomes overly extended it can cause damage to his wall muscles that actually when contracted empty the bladder. If these muscles are damaged or stretched to where there is permanent damage, you got big problems.
when the bladder does not empty drainage from the kidneys also stops. this can damage the cats kidneys, and if not addressed in time can cause the cats blood to become septic. you can loose your cat. hope this helped.
If you vet hasn't taken care of this problem better take him to an emergency clinic ASAP, this UTI has the possibility of being fatal.

Please take your cat back to the vet or another one. Your
cat is in trouble. May have a urinary blockage of some sort,
which also can affect his or her liver and if its not taken care
of your cat can die from this. I know i had this problem with
my cat, took him to the vet and they took him right away. If i
had waited til the next day he would have died. They did
sugery on him and alot of antibiotics to get him through the
whole ordeal. Very scary for both of us, but he made it through.
So please check again with the vet, sounds to me you need
a second opinion from another vet. Purina food products are
good for the cats. Thats what mine get. Let me know what
happens o.k.. Good luck

Oh my goodness! I have a siamese, and started her on purina indoor formula. Did your vet say that this would cause his bladder to swell? I am worried now. Should we change formula's?
I recommend science diet!! great for kitties

I think I would find another vet, there is something seriously wrong with your cat. If he is in pain, it is a sign there is a problem. I have 12 cats and I know what it is like to have a sick cat. Take him to a vet as soon as possible. Have him ex-rayed, that can help them find out what is wrong with him. He may be seriously ill. I hope you have good luck with him, I know how you feel, I love my cats too. Good Luck Jan

Many cats are prone to urinary problems (especially males) and often a prescription food made specifically for these problems can help greatly. It doesn't necessarily mean that what you're feeding the cat is a "bad food," just that it should be on something better suited for it's problem.

The vet told me that my cat had to have his bladder drained...my cat was completely blocked...It is the diet your cat is on..You should check and see what's in the food and ask you vet what kind you should feed your cat.

I suggest you take your poor cat to anoter Vet before he/she ends up with a serious bladder infection. There is medication for this condition. I'm sorry your cat is in bad shape. Good luck. OH and maybe try your local SPCA, they are very helpful.

I don't want to sound mean, but I see it all the time, I work at an emergency animal hospital, if your cat can't urinate then he is blocked and needs surgery NOW. If he is not unblocked surgically then his bladder will rupture and he will die. Look in the phone book for a 24hour animal ER near you.
