Hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations are false perceptions that occur while falling asleep or immediately upon awakening. They are completely normal so don't worry. I occasionally hear voices or feel something touch me while I am dozing off and a few times I've woke up, opened my eyes and seen a person or animal or a face on the wall. People with serious mental illnesses or brain disorders have persistent hallucinations when wide awake and in a clear state of consciousness.

Sometimes before I fall asleep I hear noises such as voices whispering and such. Then I juts sit up in bed for a little and try and finetune my hearing to find out it's just the sound of water running (pipes, drain, etc.) or the high pitch noise from electronics in the house. It's really wierd, but Im right there with you hehe. It scares the crap outta me sometimes. You just gotta remember that your brain never actually gets tired or falls asleep :)

Don't worry about it absolutoly worst case scenenario you have the mildest case of schizophrenia i have ever heard of, just try to get more sleep often hallucinations of any sort are due to lack of sleep, perhaps you don't get near enough sleep so when you go to bed you start dreaming aka hallucinating before you even fall asleep, this is relatively common, it will probably go away with age.

You are experiencing the "other side" of life. The side which most people tune out during the waking stage of life. Most people refuse to believe this exists but it does as you have just found out. Some people can hear and see when they are awake they are what we call Psychic Sensitives, most people think they are crazy but they are not, they just accept it as normal for them and that is what is starting to happen to you. Do not be afraid and just accept it for what it is. Lean from it even if you don't believe what i just told you. Just accept it. I just cant imagine the kind of answers you are going to get with this question! You are not having hallucinations, trust me, its normal what you are having because you open up your third eye to the other side. I cant believe people are telling you this!

There are two different sides as an answer:
1. Science- You re brain never sleeps, common voices from throughout the day, etc.
2. Spirituality- Spirits trying to communicate, (Christianity) Spirits in purgatory in need of prayers, etc.
I don t know which helps more- but you shouldn t be too worried. Everyone goes through this and it s very common :)

I have definitely had some similar experiences, and it does or did appear to always be just as I was about to drift off, kind of a pre-sleep pre-REM stage, I have never heard my name called but I have heard sounds. I have also talked to others with similar experiences, so I wouldn't be to worried, unless the voice starts telling you to do things, or becomes menacing, or something scary like that.

This may sound completely foreign to you, but yes it has happened to me, and the explaination is: the Astral Plane.
This is where our spirits go when we are dreaming, and the sounds you are hearing could be coming from there as you are spiritually drifting away.
The voices calling your name could be your spirit guides.
Hallucinations? Possibly. As we drift off, perhaps our minds are more suseptable to them.
Look up Astral Plane though, it may give you some insight.

Somebody on another site I frequent was talking about the same type of thing. Here's the post if you'd like to see what the other members told him.

Btw, you are not going crazy. I get those types of voices occasionally myself.
