What do you mean "recover"?
If you really loved them, you will ALWAYS love them. I still get a little heart thumpy thump when I think about my past loves sometimes, even the girlfriend I had when I was eleven! I miss her.
I still go about my day to day life. I think as soon as you can focus on another person, you are recovered, and that is as soon as few weeks or months. As long as you acknowledge you will never stop loving your ex, and that it is OK to love more than one person in your life, you will be able to move on.

took me 5 years. that whole 1/3 or 1/2 the time is a load of crap. my longest relationship ever took me 5 minutes to get over. but it took me 5 years to get over my first love.

I'm sorry but it usually takes about 1/3 the time you were dating to get over it.
