although copper gaskets will more than likely last longer, they are definitely not a necessity! However, if you are going to install new headers, you should install new gaskets as well to save you money in the long run. Hope that helps.

You don't have cardboard gaskets on the exhaust system! Paper ignites at 451 degrees F while the exhaust system can easily exceed 1000 degrees F.

You should install new gaskets whenever you remove any component. The stock manifold gaskets will work fine. Standard exhaust manifold gaskets are made of a sandwich of metal and a heat resistant material. Asbestos used to be used; not sure if that's been replaced with a less hazardous material or not.

Single-thickness metal gaskets are sometimes used but you are much more likely to have problems getting a gas-tight seal with them. Once an exhaust gasket springs a leak, you have to replace it.

Copper gaskets should really only be used for racing cars...and then, they have to use a specialized silicon gasket sealer with them, because they're too thin. There's been no end of discussion on the British car forums because Moss Motors offers a copper headgasket set, and everyone who's tried it says they've wound up with head leaks or damage.

If you can't find a stock set (which I highly doubt) I'd try a set made out of aircraft gasket material...strongest stuff in the industry.

Don't waste your money. Neons don't last forever, I mean, just consult the rust bubbles on your hood.
