It is very much possible...The body will try to reject what it thinks is a foreign body. I'm surprised at the ortho who did not tell u that this could be possible. Contact ur FP or Ortho to get test done. There was a few yrs back that they did have issues with hip replacement and knee replacemnet parts. Please talk to the surgeon who did ur hubby's hip surgery. There also could be some underline issues...so please make the appointment.

It is possible, but what kind of "sick" does he feel. Is it like a gastro-intestinal type of sick, or a general feeling of malaise. If he has this done a few years ago, I think the rejection would likely have shown up sooner, and more violently, with possible rashes, and severe pain in the area he had it done. It's possible that some kind of pathogen may have been introduced into his system during the operation. He should go and have his blood tested, etc, and one last question, does he have a fever, or any problems with having a Bowel Movement? There are a lot of people being diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which can be changed by altering one's diet. Good Luck and I hope he feels better.

I would think your doctor ran several tests before and after surgery to see if his body ran into any rejection problems on this hip plate. I'd see the doctor and voice your concerns, asking if he can have some more tests run to determine if your husband's body is rejecting the hip plate.

And of course, it's always smart to get a second opinion from another doctor as well.

I have not seen it my self, but I have heard of similar things. The body can reject anything foreign in it, I have had friends with peicings that the body did not accept. Best sugestion that I have is go to the doctor and see if that may be a cause.

it is possible. a simple metal allergy test would be the best place to start. If there is no allergy, find out the brand of replacement used, the lot number, and the date it was made(the surgeon should have all this)-then check with Web MD to see if it has been recalled.

I am no physician, but in my experience and the experience of those close to me is this - your body can reject any foreign object; our body's can also become allergic to itself; so if your husband has been sick for as long as you say I would consult, consult, consult until testing was done by someone.

Yes, a woman from my workplace experienced this. She called it an allergy to the metal. Not sure that that's the right term, really. It had to be replaced.
