Sorry to say that most pets do feel separetion anxiety. How they react to it depends on the animal, its breed, temperment, and personality. And, animals do have conscious thought. Dogs and cats are living, breathing, thinking creatures. They feel attachment, as well as abandonment. How close they are to you also affects how they will react when you're gone. The responsible thing to do is arrange for someone to come to your house, or take in your pets at their house, or take them to a kennel while you're gone. If there's an emergency its good to have someone around to take them to a vet.

Yes, I think animals do have a sense of time. And, Yes they do feel left. I left my 6 cats for 5 days and when I came home I had to call them for days before they all came home. They feel abandoned. They miss you and the feeding time you have for them. They also long for the love you gave them while you were home. If I leave my house early in the morning, and come home late. I find the cats have not eaten. After I get home, they act as if they are starved to death. I'm still glad they let me live here. LOL Good luck!

It's unlikeley it'll be a problem. Animals have memories and a basic sense of time (internal body clock etc.) but don't have the power of conscious thought (unless your pets are great apes or dolphins). Therefore, they won't actually miss you over the course of 7 days, only for a split moment everytime they notice you're not there.

I am not sure if they have an actual sense of time...i believe that they understand CHANGE and that something is DIFFERENT and react to that. As long as your pets are well tended to in your absence, go and have a good time!! You are suffering much more than they are! We have 4 dogs and 3 cats, and we hired a pet sitter to live at our home....it was such a relief!!

Good Luck!!

If you have arranged for a pet sitter or boarding, your animals should adapt to their new situation quickly. Be certain the person or place has good references and that your animals have up to date shots.

Animals don't know hours and minutes, but when I go on vacation, my cat certainly acts different than he does if I'm only gone a few hours.
