That's really sad. I'm sorry to hear that. Can you not have a dog where you live? Can you have another pet, like a fish? I know a fish would not replace your dog, but it would give you something to take care of.

Just be glad for one, he has a good familey and he did not get hit by a car.
What I did when spot died was a few months are weeks when I was over with it, I got a new lab. she is the best thing ever. Dealing with a loss of a pet is tought, trust me I know, i have went through four horrors. It is okay to cry every once in a while, trust me, i do. But think, he might be happier.

Remeber him with something like a scrapbook, or picture collage. Pick pictures that make you think of how happy you were with him. Ask the new family if its possible for you to visit every so often to take him for a walk or something. If thats not possible, ask for pictures from them of him every couple months, or every year.
Don't listen to the people who ridicule you for having to get rid of your dog. I'm sure it wasn't what you wanted to do. I was lucky enough to be able to leave my dog with my parents because I had to move to an apartment which didnt allow dogs as big as mine.

Why did you give your dog away? I know it's hard for you missing him, but imagine how he must be feeling, knowing that you left his life and he doesn't know why. I would never leave my dog: when I got divorced I took my dog with me: it was more expensive to find a place that allows dogs, but leaving him was not an option. Some appartment complexes don't allow children: would you leave your child behind to move into one of those? I don't know your exact circumstances, but you never HAVE TO give your dog away, you just need to accommodate your lifestyle. I had to pay more for my appartment and I had to turn down a career opportunity away from home because of my dog, but there is no way I would give him away: he didn't ask to come and live with me, when I bought him I made it my responsibility to look after him for as long as he lives. It hasn't always been easy...I'm moving abroad soon, but he IS coming with me: I couldn't leave him because he doesn't fit in with my lifestyle anymore. You have made your decision to give him away and sadly missing him is the price you have to pay.

Why do you want to give your dog away? It's your responsibility to take care of it.And you can buy another one and it will make a good memory.maybe the new owners will let you visit him and take him for walks?

Volunteer at an animal rescue place. Turn your lonliness into something positive for other animals.
And for goodness sake, don't get another animal until you are sure you will be able to keep it for 15 years!

you should not think about your dog just keep your mind on something else. If you keep thinking about your dog you will feel depressed. Keep your mind busy. Dont think about your dog.

Sorry, but I don't feel sorry for ya...giving him away was a your own choice. Just imagine how he must be feeling. Dog's build a bond with their master and now you've taken that away from him. I feel sorry for him, not you. Remember this...DOGS ARE FOR KEEPS!
