My one year old laughs and runs away everytime he gets corrected. He thinks its a game and keeps on doing things he is not suppose to because he thinks its funny to be spanked. Any suggestions.

LOL.. I only laugh becuase my daughter did the same thing..And at 2 1/2 she still does!!! I've started her on time out.. She has a time out chair and for some reason its the only thing thats not funny.. I tried spanking also but I had to stop because she started this thing where she would lick her hand and wipe her butt where I spanked her and told me lick it off mommy! To all against spanking, all kids need their butts beat every once in a while!!! One years old is NOT too young and you obviously DON'T have kids! Thats a totally different discussion though. A one year old won't really understand time out but its not too young to try just don't leave the room and they say to only keep them 1 minute for every year.. 1 years old 1 minute.. I would stand near him to make sure he doesn't get up. Hopefully eventually he will learn.. LOL GOOD LUCK!! If you find anything that REALLY works GREAT please let me know!!

My suggestion is to only correct him when he really has done something wrong, not only when he irritates you. Im not accusing you, its just a common mistake parents make and one I have made many times myself. But at least try :) Then make sure he knows it is not a game. Hold him and dont let him run away. Lower your voice pitch, it triggers an automatic change in our brains. Clearly explain what he did and why it was not acceptable. If he laughs still (and he probably will at first), continue to hold on to him and let him know by your facial expressions that you are not happy with his actions and this is not another game. He will get it, and probably start crying. After that each time will get easier. Small children need boundries. This is a huge world and they need that security. It may be hard at first but you will save yourself a LOT of harder work in the future. Hope this helps.

PS. I am not opposed to spanking at all, but I feel it should be used sparingly. If he gets smacked (or even yelled at) for every little thing, eventually it and you lose authority. Good luck!

If you are spanking him and he is laughing then you are not serving a purpose with that sort of discipline. How much over 1 is he? If he is just a little over 1, he is still not grasping the concept to right and wrong. What ever discipline you choose, just be consistent. He will get the picture pretty soon, that spanking are not a laughing matter.

You shouldn't be discouraged by the fact that he's playing games with you. He seems like a healthy physical child as far as I'm concerned. To your child, the world is still a mysterious place. His brain has not fully developed to understand right from wrong. Give him another 6 to 8 months (some sooner, some later) and you'll notice that he will be able to comprehend, in a limited way, good and bad.
As for now, enjoy his laughter and be happy as he is. There is nothing more precious than the laughter from a child. With time and a little patience, you'll be amazed by how quickly he is able to learn.
Good luck!

I don't recommend spanking him. It encourages violence. I recommend a time-out (it'll be tough at first, but stick with it - it really works!) ... a good way to tell how long they should be sitting in a "time-out" chair or spot is 1 minute for every year of age. Try looking up "123 Magic" it works on kids of all ages - and it has made a huge difference in my ADHD son.

First off, one years old is too young to be spanking... they do not fully understand.
My sister used to laugh everytime she got spanked. My parents learned to speak to us calmly and sometimes did to us what we did to them... obviously lot less forceful than they could... like hitting (they would smack our hands), hair pulling(lightly), pinching (lightly)... because spanking never worked.
Time outs, and taking toys away from us did.
One year olds... do not understand right from wrong... you do... it is wrong to spank a child... especially one so young.

Then you are obviously going to have to come up with some other way to discipline him. Try the naughty chair technique. He seems to like to run away. Make him stay in one spot for a minute as punishment. Every time he gets up, put him back.

Make sure the spankings hurt bad enough that he won't think they are funny! Also if he laughs when you are punishing him, then double-triple-quadurpal the punishment that you would normally give him.

he may possibly be the antichrist. I would use holy water,a crucifix and some holy salt. Place him in a magic circle blessed by the holy salt and pray to Uriel Archangel of Banishment. Then sprinkle holy water on the crucifix and thrush it at the child with vigor saying "back foul demon..i revoke you in the name of my master" it should work..until the Social services come.

At one he needs to be made to listen, Set him in a chair for 10 to 15 mins. Make it longer as he misbehaves. Tell him no talking or moving while he is in the chair.
