if they want you to have surgery and you denie it. how long would it take.

Take the surgery to fix the problem. In the Navy they would then screen you to ensure you were able to function and accomplish the mission at sea. If you don't pass the screening then you would be medically discharged and possibly receive benefits from the VA.

I would assume the other branches have similar requirements.

Why would you refuse surgery? If you have a nonunion fracture, you'll have a non-functioning limb, and pain, and potential for osteomyelitis, etc. Get it fixed, and then worry about whether you can remain in the military or not.

You won't get KICKED out. They will give you a medical discharge. It can take up to a year.
