I can't think of any name meaning "grateful" in French, there are for "beloved" (Aimé), for "polite" (Urbain) but these are oldfashioend names and I can't think of none for "grateful".

I've looked those up in French, and there isn't anything that resembles a name. By the way "Shakir" is Arabic for thankful, not African. There is no language called "African." There are hundreds of languages spoken in Africa.

I searched babynames.com for you, and I found that Shakir means 'grateful' in African. *Shrugs*
