I've always believed this. As an Army tanker, I have to be a tanker, dismount soldier, mechanic, janitor, and choir boy (on occasion). No soldier, marine, airman, or sailor should have to be a lawyer, too.

President George W Bush has vowed to punish any US marine guilty of shooting Iraqi civilians at Haditha.

"There is a thorough investigation going on. If ... laws were broken there will be punishment," Mr Bush said in Washington.

Gen. Michael Hagee, the Marine commandant, visited Iraq to reinforce the importance of adhering to ethical standards.

"As commandant I am gravely concerned about the serious allegations concerning actions of some Marines at Haditha and Hamdania," Hagee told a Pentagon news conference June 7. "I can assure you that the Marine Corps takes them seriously."

"As commandant I am the one accountable for organization, training and equipping of Marines," he added. "I am responsible and I take these responsibilities quite seriously."

It is long way from arrested to convicted & put to death. Thank goodness even in the Military has a justice system. We do not know what has happened, we would give the benefit of the doubt to Saddam & not our own Marines. Shame on you all.

Everyone complains about how horrific the US gov't and military are, but do you see any other nation in the world holding it's soldiers to such conduct standards? Contrast this to the Congo where thousands upon thousands of rapes occur, most committed by police and military soldiers.

Excuse me! In neither incident were they in danger from anyone.

The 2ND incident when they couldn't find an insurgent they drragged an Iraqi out of his house and murdered him!

They were not under fire or being attacked so don't give me that line, and any soldier knows where that damn line is!! Once you step over it, you keep stepping over it!

i think its ludacris charging those marines. i agree that they will be more scared to fire now and we have enough soldiers dying without putting the fear in them of being tried for their jobs and instincts.
