This is a simple question, no offense intended; If you, as a "true christian", but someone who hated Pagans and believed we are all devil worshipers, Had a heart attack in public, and a Pagan performed C.P.R. on you and saved your life, would you try to learn a little more about Paganism, and maybe stop hating Pagans? Would you and the person who saved your life become friends?

I would appreciate your assistance. I don't hate you now, nor would I hate you afterward. I am a Christian & Christ told us to love our neighbors. When they asked him who our neighbor is, he cited the Samaritans, a people who were hated by the Jews. So hate is not an option.

I have studied Paganism to some extent. And I allow you your right to practice it. So I think your view is biased from your view that just because we disagree you asy that I hate you. But even though we may still disagree, I never hated you - not now, and certainly not after you hypothetically saved my life.

Would we be friends? I don't know. Would I appreciate your help? Extremely. Would I accept that you have the right to practice Pagansim? I already do. Would I feel indebted to you? Perhaps. Would I consider leaving Christianity and becoming a Pagan? No way. I already made that choice. I would hope that you will eventually decide to accept Christ as your savior but that is your choice. And no matter what I don't hate you & won't - it's not an option for me.

I don't hate pagans, and I feel it's unfair to group all Christians together. I feel that modern neo-pagan reconstruction and revival is indicative of the spirit of the age and our cultural inability to cope with the philosophical and ontological demands on the human psyche. In the same way that after the fall of the Roman Republic and the decline of the old time religion a bunch of new cults sprang up stealing the gods from other cultures and incorporating them in a manner completely alien to their original meaning and context, so too modern paganism is attempting to take ideas for which there is no proper context or meaning for and breathe new life into them, creating syncretic deities without real substance or particularly meaningful theological/philosophical contributions (and I say this as a secular scholar of religious history, not as a religious individual). Idolatry, to put it simply. Now as I have said, this is indicative of the general malaise and decline of the traditional religions. But does this necessitate such radical attempts and efforts? Hardly. A critical examination of the current ideological landscape is necessary, not a series of buffet new-age religions. The complaints and criticisms which pagans level against Christianity are really only complaints about certain Christians, and a few minutes' talk will reveal the shortcomings in their understanding of the Gospel. You must examine carefully all the tenets and manifestations of Christianity before being able to argue against it.

I'm Christian, and I don't hate anyone (although sometimes I would like to shoot my boss!). There are always people who are going to tell everyone else that what they believe is the only truth there is. There are always people who claim to be true Christians, yet go around spreading rumors about others. To answer your question, yes the person who saved my life and I would become friends. It's already happened -- I had an atheist literally save my life, and we to this day are good friends despite our completely opposite view points. I don't think all pagans are devil worshippers, by the way. ;-)

awul: um, "little religions"? Better check up on your numbers!

First of all, I am a Christian and I don't hate Pagans. I don't think you worship the devil, but I do think you are misguided...I wouldn't try to learn more about paganism, but I would have no problem being friends with a Pagan.

Wylie, Pagans are not devil worshippers. I don't know who told you that, but that is not at all true. For one if you don't understand the religious beliefs of a Pagan, Wylie, then you have no right to judge Pagans beliefs. Neither does anyone else. I agree with you, the one that asked this question, but remember those that fill their hearts of hatred against those that have a different belief from them are not worth the time to understand.

If someone who calls themselves a "true christian" hated all pagans, then they are not acting in a way pleasing to God. So their hate comes from their own personal decision or warped view of God's command to love. Whether such an incident would change their mind depends on the individual.

Since Christianity bases most of its symbology and rituals on old Pagan traditions, twisted and mangled for their benefit and to make Pagans appear as "evil".... I'd say the answer is no. If they studied at all, they would find out how false their prophet really is. The very ground they walk on would be shaken. Faith shattered.

"Hate"? Wow. I was going to say that even though we don't share the same beliefs, but one look at the "Christian calendar" and it's evident that we share a lot of the same "beliefs", just marketed differently! ;)

I would hope that anyone would want to educate themselves about Pagans and their belief system...rather than assuming they are devil worshippers. Maybe a life-changing experience, such as being saved by a Pagan, would help them realize that they aren't evil, but who knows.
