There are a few things that could lead to this. For one, it's not uncommon at all for young women to have extremely irregular cycles. This type of thing used to happen to my daughter, and then when she'd finally get her period, it would be so heavy she'd have to change her tampon every 15 minutes. We solved this problem by getting her on birth control pills...Even when she stopped, her cycle was more regular, just from getting into a pattern.
Also, if you're underweight, or really stressed out, your body will consider you "ineligible" to get pregnant, and therefore will stop the regular cycle.
I highly recommend that you discuss this with your doctor, in order to figure out exactly what it is that's not working right.

You have amenorrhea. Amenorrhea means not having a period. This can be caused by many things including pregnancy, hypothyroidism, excessive prolactin secretion, obesity, excessive testosterone secretion, low LH or FSH, hypercortisolism, polycystic ovarian disease, malnutrition, etc.
You should see a doctor to get some hormone levels tested. The doctor will probably test your LH, FSH, Prolactin and Thyroid hormones first. Please see your doctor as this is a treatable condition most of the time.

Are you a teenager? Inregular periods are common when you are young. Once you start getting older will become more regular. Remember just because you are not getting periods and you are not pregnant, doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. Take care of yourself and talk to your doctor about it.

You could actually be pregnant. I've heard of people whose results could only show up with a blood test. I think you should see a doctor soon.

you might have low body fat content. if you're really thin, you might not have a period every month. don't be super worried, but do schedule an appt with a dr. about it.

you may have a homornol embalance, you can go to your dr and they may prescribe birth control pills to regulate your cycle. stress or weight gain may also be a culprit. but above all go see a ob-gyn.
