If it's a drink called kir you're asking about then it is white wine and creme de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur). You pour a little blackcurrant in the bottom of a glass that is then filled up with chilled white wine. Kir royale is the same, but made with champagne. Kir is often drunk in France as an apperitif.

I believe it's an old wooden ship used by the vikings in the Middle Ages up until the beginning of the chivalrous times. They were long and used for naval battle. The ships had hard, re-enforced noses that were used for ramming other ships. Since most people of the time couldn't swim, the ramming-ships were especially dangerous seeing as they knocked rowers and ship-crew members into the water.
