So a guy I knew was questioning whether to go to prom or not because he didn't think Jesus would. Was it wrong of me to point out that Jesus also wouldn't be driving a brand new Sunfire and wearing Tommy Hilfiger?
Any thoughts on the hypocrisy of the WWJD movement or religion in general? PS He was totally serious.

Very interesting answers. This was several years ago. Another question made me think of it.
The problem I see with Jesus driving a new car is that I'd imagine he would rather spend that money feeding starving people or providing clothes or something to help the planet. The point was that this individual made a big deal out of WJWD in a few situations, but didn't truly follow that concept in all aspects of life (or really, in many aspects of life in his case, though he felt he was a devout Christian.) To me, that is hipocrisy. It's like a double-standard.

Just as he should have been. It's a serious question. Your reply was silly, because Sunfires and Tommy Hilfigers didn't exist two thousand years ago. Flippancy never helped anybody understand anything. Had you phrased the question seriously, as to whether he ought to dress in expensive clothes and so forth, he might actually have decided to do otherwise. Don't assume that people are hypocrites simply because they care about right and wrong.

What Would Jesus Do, is just a way of helping one figure out the best choice when something does not appear as an obvious sin.
For instance, when someone robs a place and your there WWJD can help you to realize you should probably do something, whatever may be best that applies to you (obviously if your a kid, or an off-duty officer with a gun your options vary).
I think it applies best to sins of omission, (helping others, giving to charity, etc.)
James 4:17
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.
The Good Samaritan, would be an example of a time when one should ask WWJD

He,unfortunately, was lying. As a Christian,I say U should lovingly correct him. WWJD has indeed been said in vain. I'd guard against doing that. Why wouldn't Jesus drive a Sunfire or wear T.H., that doesn't wrong 2 do.

WWJD..is a joke. People are always thinking they know what Jesus would do. Hence why the world is so screwed up people always trying to be like Jesus.

He might drive a bran new sunfire(why wouldn't He?)
why wouldn't he wear Tommy Hilfiger clothing?

Jesus would so go to the prom. Plus, he would get laid. Come on now. If Jesus is so powerful he could totally get some tail. Heck his mom was banging everyone. She was so cracked out she thought she was knocked up by God.

Jesus didn't shy away from social settings. His first miracle was performed at a wedding! How much more social can you get?
But you were right to tell this guy about the car and clothing.

Have you ever told a lie? If so, you are a hypocrite if you think lying is wrong. No one can fully live up to the ideals of their religion.
I'm asking myself the same question about prom. You might be interested in reading this story about a principal who banned his school prom.

The simple fact that he believes in fairy tales is cause for alarm...
WWSCD???
(What Would Santa Clause Do???)
I think he would go to prom and bring a huge sack of toys for all the good girls and boys. Of course the cute girls could sit on his lap if they wanted to.
