This happened while the dog was in a boarding facility and we were out of the country.

1) The dog is spayed.

2) An initial ultrasound indicated that there may be kidney stones. An x-ray ruled out kidney stones.

3) The dog did receive a round of antibiotics, but cultures turned up no known infection.

4) She doesn't seem to have any blood in her urine now, after several weeks at home.

No, I have not heard of stress induced blood in the urine. Could the dog be in heat? That is when the female is ready for commencement of reproduction activities. They are receptive for about 21 days and unless a litter is desired, she should be kept confined indoors until after 21 days have passed. The scent is perceivable to a male (stud) within a circumference of a mile. They come from near and far...use unthought of techniques for attaining an opportunity to mate with the "hot" or "proud" female (*****).

Pet supply stores have specially designed pads for use during this time. Another technique is to cut a hole in a new born or larger size (to accommodate the animal) pamper diaper to allow the tail the freedom to droop or wag.

Take the animal to a veterinarian if need be to discuss what may be done to prevent an unwanted litter. They have a shot that may be given if an undesirable male mates with the female.

If it happens to be a male dog, it will need to be examined to diagnose a probable kidney disorder.

No never. Get it checked out. Bladder and kidney infections are painful. Antibiotics are needed.

I've never heard of this either. Get a second opinion from another vet.
