I have win2k on my master hd and a slave hd. I want to make the slave hd the new master, format and then install winXP. And then use the old master as the slave(the one with win2k and all my files). My question is, Will the slave still hold all the info on it OR will winXP not recognize the hd and require a format on the hd before using it?
Thanks

It will work fine...the NTFS Windows XP OS will read all of the information from the FAT32 Windows 2000 drive without a hitch. I would transfer the files as soon as possible and then reformat the "OLD MASTER" soon, just to get rid of the OS from the drive to avoid any future issues...

If you wanted you could actually setup a dual boot system but then you could not access the other drive "as easily".

a couple of items, windows COULD be ok with it, except for the install on the slave drive probably doesn't have all the drivers and such like on a fresh install to a drive and the system it will run in. don't forget to swap the pins from slave to master and opposite on the other one.

it will recognize the disk just fine. The installed programs will most likely not work though as there will be no corresponding registry entries on the XP disk.

yes to do that you need to hide the second hard drive from the computer when you install the first OS then hide that hard drive and enable the other hard drive and install the other OS then enable both and reboot
