I've started reading about the Mormon Church a LOT recently. It seems like sometithing I might be interested in joining. I am going to go to a church with my LDS friend when I get back home (a few weeks), but I was wondering: What happens to new members? I've read you take 6 classes before you can join, but what about attonement? I've been living a pretty..umm.."unclean" life by mormon standards, what would I have to do to be square in the eyes of the church? Also, family is really important in the LDS church, and i was wondering if any like...boys that were raised LDS would even be interested in someone whos had "a past"?

Isn't it amazing how little people know about our faith? You will hear a lot of anti-Mormon stuff from a lot of very ignorant people. Get used to it. Satan works very hard against the true church.

Don't worry about your past. Through the atonement of Jesus Christ you can be completely forgiven! All you have to do is to repent and be baptised by one holding the authority to perform this ordinance.

You will indeed have some discussions with the missionaries so that you know all about what it means to be a follower of the saviour. They will probably require you to commit to follow the word of wisdom (give up smoking, drinking, tea and coffee) before your baptism, and of course you will be covenanting to live the law of chastity in future. Don't worry, they can advise you of everything you need to know.

And don't worry; the boys in the church will love you for you. There is a great single adult programme, and your past will be washed away with your baptism.

My ten-year old daughter just told me to tell you "It's the best experience of your life and you'll never regret it". We are converts, and I have to say that is quite true. If you want me to help further, please feel free to write to me.

I am glad you asked your question. You are right about the 6 Discussions before you are Baptised. Then you will have an interview with the Missionaries. If you are unsure about attoning for something that you have done... you can ask the Bishop of the Ward that you attend and have a talk with him in private to discuss this.

As for the others in the Church, they should all be accepting of you. The boys will not shun you or run from you. If you have questions about this, you can email me.

One more thing, divorce in highly discouraged in almost every instance (barring abuse and such as that).

I hope that I have helped

I have been a member of the church since I was born (well, eight actually ;-), but I have had a lot of friends who have converted. I totally agree with everything that everyone else said, but you need to remember to make the prayer the basis of your decision. Don't just take our word for it, or the missionaries', or anyone else's. Do it for the right reasons. If you want an answer to any question in life, God will answer it for you. You can feel free to email me if you have any other questions. Good luck!

You may not want to hear that it is a cult, but it is. This is not an insult to Mormonism, it is a cult by definition.

Before you throw away your life, take a look at this web site. It is written by people who were Mormons. Their writing is a straightforward and honest description of how their lives were ruined by the Mormon church.

Your friends are not telling you everything about being a Mormon and you owe it to yourself to research both sides of this very important decision. Once you become a Mormon you are not allowed to research the LDS movement other than reading approved materials. So while you are still free do the research now.

The second link is specifically for those who are thinking of joining. Keep an open mind and read it.

I am not Mormon, but please before you decide anything at all, about any way of worship, please read up on it.

When you read about this particular way of worship, you will find that as a woman, your purpose is only to produce children for your husband, and that includes the afterlife, (if he decides to take you with him) where you will bear children to populate the planet he is given to rule over.

There is much much more, but this should get you started questioning what you might be getting into.

It is my understanding that a mormon man will marry a woman with a "past" as you put it, but do not mess up during the marriage in any of their rules, divorce is encouraged if the spouse isn't following the rules of mormanism.

DON'T get sucked in...it's a cult! Run as FAST as you can the other way. Seriously, I live in Utah and it's like Night of the Living Dead here...I have to watch my back at all times. Resist the urge.
