Wouldn't it defy many religions? I think the religious world will say they "aren't real" and the are just a figment of our imagination and should be banned . . . . .

Eventually I think missionaries would venture out to teach them the gospel. While the Jehovah Witness's would be the first ones ringing the aliens doorbells, I'm sure other denominations would follow....from Christians to Islams to Mormons.
I'm sure if another inhabited alien world was found, major restrictions on communication would be enforced by governments until "political" deals would be made and enforced. I'm also sure that at some point there would be an exchange of information on cultures (and Earth would include religious materials representing all world beliefs).

A few years back NASA found a rock with grooves in it and announced (just the day before their budget was up for review) that it was evidence of life (microbial) on other planets. This was picked up and reported by most networks as being proof that the Bible was wrong. Oddly enough the Bible doesn't say that there is not life on other planets, in fact some things in the Bible makes more sense if there were life elsewhere. On to the question, we would send missionaries and they would try to convince us. But if others came here and said that there is a God along the lines of Christianity, would it convince you?

I think that would be dumb if people sent missionaries to unknown planets just to convert them. What if there is no such thing as gods on the aliens' planet? What if the aliens are CANNIBALS and eat the missionaries?
Me, I dont believe in god so I dont think that even if the aliens did believe in god but a different religion, missionaries shouldnt change them. They believe in what they believe.

Excellent question. Yes there are aliens, I heard about them on the radio and read about them in the paper. We are actively trying to keep them out, we do not give a damn if they are Christians or not, they haven't paid their dues, are hard working and want to take jobs away from Americans who do not want to do those jobs that require hard work. The only way we would send missionaries to a country that did not believe in our God would be to exploit their natural resources and make our spiritual elite rich. After we went the missionaries, our leader would declare, "Mission accomplished!" And we would live happily ever after with the infidel's resources. (hypothetically of course)

Of course, when has the Catholic Church ever missed an opportunity to convert a heathen?
As far as the aliens go, assuming they were not hostile, it is likely they, as a more advanced race, would be more interested in our science and culture than our religion (correct or otherwise.)

Of course we would send missionaries to convert them to our beliefs system, right after we had conquered them and exploited all their resources, demeaning them and their culture. That's what we DO. As for the second question, that would depend on the aliens, then, wouldn't it?

i do not have self belief in evolution (Darwin himself did not imagine it became real yet did not say something and scientists went nuts and spread the idea all round no longer to point that God explains how we were mad in Genisis) yet the position did God say that we are the truly beings contained in the universe? i do not doubt that there will be "extraterrestrial beings" someplace...available and that i'm a christian. ever heard of section fifty one? If extraterrestrial beings teach up then i might want to definately have an interest by what life is like on different planets.

There would be a clash of religions, and in a few hundred years there will be a new and improved religion that will of course be filled with loopholes, many loopholes. But there will still be millions of followers. Millions of them preaching the word to everyone like it is a fact of life. Hey didn't something like this already happen????
