The pill and the shot are both 99% (or more) effective. The shot (depo provera) has some side effects that some women do not find acceptable however. What is "better" depends upon the individual and how your body reacts to each type of birth control. Also, bear in mind that if someday you do decide you want to become pregnant, it can take up to 1 yr or so after getting off the shot, whereas generally with the pill, that issue doesn't exist. I prefer the shot, for convenience (once every 3 mos, no more periods) but many women I've known that tried it, got off of it for one reason or another.

I was on the shot for almost 2 years and it was great. No periods, you go once every 3 months, and it's as effective as the pill. The only problem I had was calcium deficiency, but if you take a vitamin you should be all right. The shot is better for people who want to use it long term though. Once you get off the shot it could take up to a year before you get pregnant. But if that doesn't bother you, then try the shot.

I don't know the % but please don't take the shot I gained a ton of weight I mean 100 lbs on the shout it went great for 2 years and the from 2 years to 2 years 6 months I picked up 80 lbs I stopped using it but I didn't level out until I gained 100 lbs and it took forever to get it off. I switch to regular pills but with all birth control they make your weight stay still so i didn't gain but I couldn't loose either. I had to get off of everything completely before I lost any weight I ended up loosing 60 lbs then getting pregnant but I only gained 14 lbs then lost it after I had my son. I still am 40 lbs more than I was when this whole mess started and will be that way until I can get off f birth control completely again I guess but not till were ready to have more kids LOL. I really enjoyed the patch for one its weekly not daily and I had a tough time with nausea on the pills that why I went to the patch in the 1st place, but back then that was the only alturnative. I just switch to the Nuva ring that has been working well and it last 3 weeks then you take it out to get your period. Talk to your Dr and discuss whats important to you and they will lead you in the right direction. Good Luck

I've been on both. The pills (I tried a variety!) all made me very irregular and I continuously forgot them, increasing my pregnancy risk. I used the shot for a year and it was great in the sense that I had no period, and I didn't have to remember a pill daily. BUT... it messed with my hormones so bad that I had headaches constantly and I turned into a psycho. It was like I was constantly Super PMS!!! I finally had to get off the shot... to solve my problem I got my hubby snipped! The effectiveness of the shot is supposed to be a little higher than the pill, but only because it eliminates the human error of missed pills. I found the shot to be a worse experience for me. But, everyone is different.

Maybe the shots are better because with the pill they're only effective if you take them the same time every day. If you take the pill and then say you get sick and you vomit before the pill is out of your stomach you're not protected. The one think I've noticed about the shot though is that about 2 weeks before you're due for another one you get 3 months of PMS all at once.....at least that's what happens to one of my girlfriends. LOL One other thing abstinence doesn't work so good if you're married.

Well the best thing is not a havin sex but the patch works just as well as the shot it has the same percentage but you should try IUD they offer two types on for 5 yrs and one for 10yrs. Your OB/GYN puts it on your cervix and it works exactly like the shot with an higher percentage. Then whenever you are ready to have kids just go to your doctor and they take it out.

I was on the shot for 9 years and loved it. I didn't get a period unless I was really stressed or moving or something like that. I only had to remember 4 times per year and it was so convenient. I did not have any weight issues or moodiness.

I had been on the pill before that and never remembered to take it, so I say go for the depo. It's 99.7% effective and is also effective immediately.

The drawback is once you get the shot, you're in for 12 weeks, so if you don't like it you have to stick it out.

Oh, and when I went off it to get preggos, it took 5 months after my missed shot. I went back on it after I had my son for two years. I went off it again to get preggos again and it took 6 months after my missed shot. So it didn't seem to matter how long I was on it, I didn't have any problems getting pregnant.

I was using the patch from Ortho Evra. I really liked the fact that I get to use it once a week for three weeks, take it off, get my period, and then start all over again.
But then, my OBGYN was telling me that she wanted to take me off of it because of all the blood clots. She was concern for my well-being, so, she told me that the shot was just as effective. That if I just came off my period (I was still on it) that I could get one shot for 3 months! That I was going to see some spotting because that is what was expected. So, I will be going back in August.
So, I would say the shot is good.

the shot is better than birth control

best birth control is to sit ya a s s down somewhere and put your energy into something a little more constructive. The King sense that you are very young!! Live your life 1st, young-one!! Then worry about that sex stuff when you're settled. Trust me, I'm still young and had learned the hard way when I was younger to live my life before all that the spuns from having sex (babies)
Thankfully a DNA test proved NOT MINE. Thank God, cause she was a witch!! :) So the King still hasn't lived his Quarter life yet and I'm loving it!!
