From a certain perspective, yes. It would be nice to think that there is. But I don't believe it for a second. But it's a nice thought to have, when you can have it.
In much the same way, it's a pleasant thought to think that I'm the best looking guy in town, and all the people around me are staring in appreciation. Whether it's true or not, it is nice to feel that way sometimes.

My grandparents, parents and 3 of my 5 brothers are dead.
I have no hope or expectation of an "afterlife." They are at peaceful rest, and someday, so shall we all be.
Comment:
It is obvious that many people asking these questions are very young and do not realize how tiresome "life" can become. After awhile, "life" is just a series of re-runs. The questions asked here have been asked (and answered) millions of times before. And, as an old geezer, I do not wish for, or expect "life" to continue beyond whatever time I have left on earth.
Life does get old, as does the body.

I will admit that I sometimes envy others for their faith in an afterlife, or more specifically, the comfort that faith gives them... but I wouldn't say that I hope for it.
For me, as an atheist, hoping for an afterlife would be like hoping unicorns exist. It's a great notion, but I don't have enough evidence to even support hope.

I would hope (maybe wish is a better word) there is, but I believe that is not the truth. Of course that's what you want, but I don't think it's realistic to believe there is an afterlife. It's like cancer, I'd hope there was no such thing, but I know there is cancer. I don't believe in something just because it is the favorable outcome.

That would be awesome, as long as it's a good afterlife. I'm not too impressed with the one the Bible puts forth. God is a chode.

Nope.
I know there is none and for my religious ones I can only feel bad that they wasted a large portion of thier lives on what will eventually be universally regarded as an utter waste of time and effort.

Absolutely not and that's why we are upset. But if you are a true Cristian then you should be happy when person dies coz you know he is in heaven now and you will meet him soon. So nothing can be more beautifull then when true Cristians die . He will go to heaven and i will gladly accept that.
Therefore GOD exists.

"if religion was a made up la-la land to comfort those who fear death... why all the rules?"
Think about how many people gripe about Atheism supposedly not having Objective Morality... There's your answer.
As for the question. It would be nice, but there still remains no reason to believe this.

No. I will just do my best to remember himher after their death.
My maternal grandma and maternal aunt are dead. I don't think there is any afterlife. I remember them fondly.

I know they are still with me in my memories and heart and quite possibly as ghosts. There is no heaven, no hell. Just partying it up as an invisible guest in our homes. And, I am SO gonna haunt all the catholic priests when I die.
