I have a standard shift 1988 Nissan Sentra with extremely low mileage. I love this car and it has never let me down as yet. One problem is there is no air conditioning which makes driving very difficult to cope. Asked 2 Nissan dealers if Air could be installed but they both said "no"! If anyone knows that air can be installed, please let me know. If "no" I will have to trade it in on a newer one with air. Thank you in advance.

The problem with installing A/C now after the car was already built is that none of the piping is there. They would have to basically tear apart the entire area around the firewall to install the compressor, condenser, hoses, etc. as well as the interior cabin components (piping, electronics, etc).
It probably could be done, but it'd cost twice as much as the car is worth.

A car that is 25 years old or older is considered an Antique Auto. As far as having A/C installed on your vehicle. the biggest problem would be finding an A/C kit for your vehicle. The Nissan dealers are saying "no" because the kit is no longer available through Nissan. Try checking shops that specialize in A/C repairs, they may be able to get an aftermarket kit to install. HTH!! Good Luck!!!

Those two dealers are wrong. Their answer should have been that Nissan does not do it. There are "After Market" shops that can install an A/C but it will devaluate the "Antique" value.

its not quite an antique yet...a couple years more and it will be....it'll have to be about 25 years old and over to be considered a classic or antique...and the ppl who says that a/c cant be installed in your sentra...they dont have a clue what they're sayin' cuz it can definitely be fitted....back in the caribbean where i'm from the majority of sentras had a/c if not all of them.

30 years at least. And try selling the Sentra to a private party than trading it in a dealer. That way you'll get more for your car. Get a value of your car @ www.kbb.com or autotrader.com.

Honestly the time and expense involved in a project like that would cost far more than the car is worth.
