If I'm just starting to do crunches for the first time in my life (practically true), how many reps should I do, and how many in each rep? Basically, how many do I do and how long before I bump it up? Can anyone give me a two month schedule? Also, other exercises I could do that don't require expensive equipment and the reps I need to do for them? Thanx so much.

What I have done in the past is 3 reps of 15 sit-ups and you can do this twice or 3 times a day..for about a week and then each week bump it up to maybe 30 situps or less (20) and add on an additional rep as well.

Start with 2 sets of 15. After a couple weeks or when you're comfortable with that, add a 3rd set. 2 or 3 weeks later, bump it to 20 (25 if you are progressing quickly). Other great exercises without equipment are push-ups and manual squats. Manual squats are done by crossing your arms across your chest while standing and bending all the way to a crouched position and back up. Go down on a 3 count and up on a 6 count. Do 2 sets of 10 to start. Incredible workout for legs and butt.

usually reps of 20-25 in sets of 4 --these for your upper abs.

you can also do 6-inches, thats lying flat on your back , with your legs strait and lifting your legs of the floor about 6 inches and count to 50, then increase your count-- these are for your lower
abs.

start with 4 sets of 15 and go from there.

remember though that a flat stomach has a lot more to do with cardio than situps.
Also, its better to do a whole bunch one day, then take a rest than to do them every day
