Atheist are not threaten by the "concept" of intelligent design.
It is those promoting intelligent design that are challenged by evolution.

In other words, we may come from Monkeys, but unfortunately some still do like to act like them rather than assuming their full potential !

Why do people categorize and generalize others? I do not feel threatened by the concept of intelligent design in any way.

We're not threatened by the concept of intelligent design. We're threatened by a fanatical moral majority that wants to use legislation, etc., to force unfounded tenets of faith down everyone's throats. Everybody is threatened by tyranny, not just us atheists. Christians seem to forget that they once dwelled under threat of tyrannical action in the Roman Empire. Of course, the difference is that the Christians are right. *dripping sarcasm*

Oh, how completely convenient! I just answered a question like this! I don't even understand how you can consider ID a concept - it's just creationism repackaged. Since Atheists wouldn't believe in creationism at all (since we don't believe in a creator) why would any atheist feel threatened by ID? It's just something else we don't believe in!

ID is a complete joke, it's just another way to push creationism being taught in schools. I do not for the life of me, understand how a person could spend time viewing gorillas, and not believe in evolution. Seriously, it's not some crazy coincidence that gorillas bear such a remarkable resemblance to humans, especially their hands and eyes. But maybe god was feeling ugly that day, so he created them in his skewed image? Who knows, but it blows my mind that there are people that truly believe in the utter crap that is creationism/ID.

Intelligent Design is a cop-out concocted by the Church as an attempt to compromise both sides of the argument.

ID is simply claims "God Created Evolution"

How can either Creationists or Evolutionists be satisfied by this?

It's like a tie in soccer, no one wins and everyone goes home upset.

"Threatened?" Methinks you do exaggerate. It's closer to irritation. When mythical thinking tries to cloak itself with the legitimacy of science, it's akin to noise in the library.

Here you are, trying to concentrate on what the hell Lisa Randell means by 10 dimensions and the possibilities of "M-theory" and someone starts to rave about how we should forget the whole thing because it was "made that way!!" Well lahddy-f***ing-dah, why the hell have we spent all this money and effort when we had the answer right there, in the writings of tribal elders from thousands of years ago! How stupid of US! (OK, you DO see how it can irritate, right?)

Probably for the same reason that non-atheists feel "threatened" by the concept of evolution...it goes against what they believe (or in this case, don't believe).

More like Scientists are concerned by the publics interest in it. It is essentially a sign of Anti-Scientific reaction by apparent contradiction of Science to a person's religious doctrine.

It could spiral people further and further away from Science and into Pseudoscience

I don't. I think it's sad that people still have to insert the will of an imaginary being to explain the things that they don't understand, but I think it's great that they're looking at and recognizing the facts that are there, at least. Why can't people just admit they don't know something? Why do they have to make up stories just so they "know"? I really don't get this.
