Well we were talking about our past relationship, and how I was with someone for 9 yrs and hetook total control of me, hidden from the world and both physical and menatl abuse. So after the whole conversation I asked him how he thinks of me and he said that I was a pretty girl, but I was neglected and naive. My dad isn't there so he figured thas why I putted up with all the stuff that my x did to me

It depends to what he said it in regards to. Or why.
My brother used to say that, but it was really because I looked up to him so much, and I wanted to believe that he was being truthful or sincere instead of playing a joke on me. I have always wanted to believe the best in people, and tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. But I also know how to protect myself now and don't allow myself to trust just anyone. For me to trust someone, they have to earn it. I guess I have been somewhat naive growing up, but I don't really regret it because I am an honest and sincere person, and a lot of people respect me for such. It doesn't necessarily mean you are "stupid" and don't stay friends with people who think you are. But if you know you have a tendency to want to "believe in people" you ought to acknowledge this in your life. You can still be nice to people in general, but don't allow your emotions to fool you from seeing others for who they really are. Life is all about learning and experiences. People who call you naive, may either be trying to actually help you, but they also can try to tell you that, so they can feel better about themselves. It isn't always a bad thing, but it is something that you should control in your life. Many people will try to take advantage of you, but there are a lot more people who will respect you for who you are and appreciate your sincerity.

Dont pay attention to those idiots below. A lot of people are naive. For example, if some one makes a sexual joke and you dont get it...you are naive because your mind does not think like they do. It's nothing bad, and I am sure you are naive all the time. Tell him he needs to be more aware of your feelings and not to make fun of you.

Naive implies that one is igorant about a particular subject. This does mean to imply that one is slow or does not have the ability to learn but that they have very little or no knowledge about the subject at hand.
This term can also imply that one is to easy going in the sense that they will allow those around them to use them or allow them to take advantage of them.

Naive means you think you know what's going on but you don't. Tell him to explane himself because if he thinks he's getting away with being aloof, he's the one who's naive. (It could also be some word he saw in a movie and just wanted to try it out:-)

May be you need to listen to him and let him think that your naive and figure him out and what he means by that,we can all play naive and there's nothing wrong with being innocent!

That means he thinks you know less than he does, if he is a nice guy, he will respect you for your honesty, treat you like a lady and encourage you to mature. But if he's a loser he may get a kick out of belittling you. Be cautious.

it only means he doesn’t understand u, most men have no clue what the word communicate means so instead of explaining to u what he means he makes remarks to intimidate u. usually he is the naive one.

he finds you to be a tad bit... well to be frank he thinks your stupid. But its not necessarily bad cuz that might mean he thinks ur easy. Which might be bad. Or it just means he thinks your childish/naive/dumb/notsmart.
