I mean when the player starts a round and he drives the ball to the hole, I can't imagine any one actually getting the ball in the hole at that distance. I have a feeling that's not quite right????

You hit your first shot on that hole into the hole. You can go to www.playgolfamerica.com and they have a lot of information on term for people who want to learn about golf.

"A "hole in one" or "hole-in-one" (also known as an "ace") is a phrase used for when a golf player hits the ball from the tee into the cup on any hole with one shot.

It is relatively rare for a golfer to get a hole-in-one on a golf course. Ocassionally special events host a hole-in-one contest, where prizes as expensive as a new car, or cash awards sometimes reaching $4 million [1] are offered if a contestant sinks a hole in one. Usually such expensive prizes are backed by an insurance company who offers prize indemnification services. Actuaries at such companies have calculated the chance of an average golfer making a hole-in-one at approximately 12,700 to 1, and the odds of a tour pro at 3,700 to 1. [2]"

That is what it is exactly. A player gets the ball in the hole on his first shot. It generally happens on what holes that are marked Par 3. Par is the number of shots it should take to get the ball in the hole and is based on distance. Rule of thumb is Par -2 is the number of shots to get onto the green. Par 3 you should get to the green on your first shot. Par 4 You should reach the green on your second shot and PAr 5 you should reach the green on your 3rd shot. Odds are against you I have scored a hole in one on computer golf. But it was like in real golf as well I played hundreds of rounds before I scored it.

I agree with you. My first golfing hole was a par four and I hit ten times from the tee to get into the cup. I was quite proud of it though, as from the tee, I can't even see the hole!! To hit ten times of this tiny white ball into the cup smaller than my coffee cup is incredably smart!!!! To hit one time is just impossible. I've played golf over 20 years, never get one. You're right, it's not right to get a hole in one before me!!!!

ok..erm i think u should be familiar with the term Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5 right??..the hole in one means that with the first hit the ball went into the hole..This will happen on Par 3 holes since it is reachable with 1 shot since it is relatively short in distance compared to par 4 and par 5..But few exception for short par 4 and/or the par 4 is reachable with 1 drive from the tee box it self since there are numerous par 4 in the world that can be reached with 1 shot.

Not all courses are long(400 yds and over) there are par 3 courses in which the distance to goal is around 150 yds or so. That distance is reachable within one swing. In that case it would be scored as an eagle(-1 better dan a birdie) or hole-in-one

Its when you hit the ball off the tee and goes in the hole. You only hit 1 shot.

Yes you are right Put it this way IN THE HOLE IN 1 SHOT, its Most of them occor on par 3's, here you can reach the green in 1 shot so if you aare lucky it drops, you can also have hole in 1s on par 4s but that is WOW. think the longest hole in 1 was 444 yards par 4
