I think the panic and idiocy that followed the book was more the work of his publishers than anything else.
Have you ever read the book? It was badly written, the man has no real talent, nevermind the stuff he made up about the Bible. On several occasions the characters had to be roused from a flashback of some kind. So many times that it sort of became funny after awhile. Brown also had a tendency to do the whole 'friday afternoon soap opera ending' for his chapters, in that he'd leave you hanging at the most crucial moment and go to another scene.
There was no climax to the book, it just sort of fizzled out like a balloon at the end. In all honesty, I'd be a little disappointed in the devil if he thought this was a good way to win Christians away from God lol. Surely he could do better than that!
Rather, I think this whole thing was just a stupid media frenzy, as happens now and then.

It's clearly just a well thought out story!! But it is supposed to make you think. It is not meant to make anyone lose faith in God. It is meant to make people see, they their faith in men, can sometimes be misplaced.
Over 15 years ago, I read the precursor of the Di Vinci Code. A book called "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" by a British author named Graham Hancock. It basically says the same thing. Its an interesting read, just as the Da Vinci Code was. Didn't shake my faith in, or understanding of, God. Its food for thought. Its not wrong to wonder ... what if ... etc. Because the truth about who and what God is all about, doesn't change any way you want to look at it. The answer lies within you, not with any bible/coran/talmud/scripture toting minister who tells you this or that (based on his knowledge of it) but what your heart and your soul feels to be true.
So, there is no concrete evidence either way, that Jesus really existed and or was crucified for our sins. So it is just as easy to create any scenario you want, on his going to India for example, or marrying Mary Magdalene. This is not the point. The legacy of Jesus is in the inspiration his figure still incites 2000 years later. I browsed over the Koran, must say I wasn't IMPRESSED, so I put it down. There are a lot of holes in the Old and New Testaments too. Don't forget, these were also written by men!!. Maybe they were a little bit inspired, by "unseen forces" to write down what they did. But a man is a man. That is all. He doesn't have the authority to speak in God's place. Read carefully, some of the quotes attributed to Jesus, you will soon understand, how to make the difference. Whatever comes from God, should have two basic qualities, Absolute Love and Absolute Good.

The thing with the Da Vinci code is this: it's fiction, but it's malacious fiction that gets many people to believe it (something like 40% or 50% of moviegoers are convinced it's true after watching it, even knowing it's fictional!)
It is riddled with errors and omissions (the group Opus Dei really exists, but it is a lay group, meaning no monks are part of it, albino or otherwise!) For a more complete list of errors and omissions, check out: http://www.jesusdecoded.com/truthbetold3.php?page=100
The crux of the problem with the Da Vinci Code is this: even though it is fiction, and declared to be so by the author, it was written in an attempt to besmirch the Catholic Church. It is a vindictive work.
The situation is similar to someone writing something about you and your boss on the bathroom wall, but writing "fictional" underneath it. Even if false, it would certainly get people at work talking!
It is religious slander of the lowest kind.

Obviously there is a lot of question about Christianity. Why cant I pick up a bible that is actually complete? Why all of the various versions? Why were books of the bible eliminated? Why does the Vatican house and is hiding ancient religious doctrines? How can someone blindly follow the words of anyone who claims to be a messenger from god? Why such secrecy? Why is the female role in the so called bible diminished? Why does one of the worst evil doers that has ever existed stand behind a vail of chritianity? Why do we kill in the name of god? For me it is all speculation. What would Jesus, Khali, Buddah, Ganesh, Pele, Oya, Bridget, Oden, Babalu Oye, Zeus, Aphrodite do? Probably would want to ask more questions or just laugh at us because WE REALLY DONT GET IT.

It's an attack. According to my copy of "The Secret And Grand Plan To Destroy The Universe" the Da Vinci Code is Phase Two, step 4. Step five consists of people randomly spitting pomegrante seeds at babies in order to tempt the faith of righteous Christians.

Dear Patronne 06,
The Da Vinci Code is just another Hollywood dramatization. It is filled with lies. you want truth, you should read what the Bible states. Every Hollywood film dealing with some aspect of the Bible has falsified the facts and added to God;s word. Have you ever read the ten commandments in the Bible? See what it says about making images of God.....

My opinion is that the more Christians complain about it the more publicity it gets.
I don't think it was an attack...I think it was a promotional tool that Christians bought into just they way Dan Brown and his publishers wanted.
I think it is fictional and the only people that believe in it are the conspiracy theorist types. If a person's faith is that weak that they can be shaken so easily by a fun novel they probably are not meant to be in that faith to begin with.

It's totally fictional! It was written by a guy who is obviously not a Christian, and maybe he just wants to start a big fight between Christians and the non-believers. It possibly could be one of satan's tricks, but then again, anything that can be seen as "against Christians" could be seen as one of Satan's tricks.

I could care less about the Da Vinci code, because God is going to get all the Glory! He works all things out and He has already used the Da Vinci Code to get people asking question and I'm quite sure many other good things have come of it.

It is an attack.
Jesus is supposed to be our best friend .
SO lets say someone made up a story ok, it called you a liar and many other horrible things.
And your best friend here on Earth read it, knowing perfectly well it was talking bad about you, and then said it was a good book, not because it was true but because it was a story.Would you be angry and sad that your friend did that.
I would be.
This is exactly what many people are doing to Jesus.
