If Eve was created from Adam's rib, they would have (mostly) the same DNA. Why would God start with such a shallow gene pool to populate the world?

Memento mori your kids might be from the shallow pool...so do not populate.

Bella you are so right!!! God knew exactly how to do things and why. I love the Lord and I never rely on my own understanding.

First of, the God that can speak things in to being wouldn't have any trouble rearanging some DNA, but if He did stick with the same DNA... (this answer is also relavent to the question "where did Cain's wife come from?")
Inbreeding is dangerous because those in the same immediate family usually have the same genetic defects. Inbreeding streingthens those defects. Adam and Eve were created perfect, so there were no defects to worry about. Defects occour through mutation, so it would take many subsequent generations before there would be any defects to worry about. By that time the population would be diversified enough to support itself.

All people have mostly the same DNA, if you want to get technical about it. My guess: genetic variability is one of the ways a species protects itself from extinction. Before Adam & Eve sinned, they had no risk of extinction because God was watching over them and Eden provided everything they could ever need. Humans didn't need to develop genetic variation until after we got tossed from the Garden.

And wouldn't Eve be Steve? And how could they populate the world at all then? Isn't homosexuality supposedly a sin? I guess God wanted to be the first person to watch the epic tale of love soon to come to a movie close to you "broke back garden, the tale of Adam and Steve"

>>If Eve was created from Adam's rib, they would have (mostly) the same DNA.<<

I don't think you can validly draw that conclusion. We have no idea how many genetic changes a divine being could have produced in Eve's DNA.

And their children produced their grandchildren by way of incest. Genetic crosses by close relatives does not produce as many problems as American culture thinks that it does. What it does do is amplify any genetic problems that do exist(very few with people that were still so close to perfection) and reduces variation between individuals. That's why individuals from cultures who practice first cousin marriage have incredibly similar appearances.

Maybe they had no mutations in Eden? No bad radiation, no alcohol drinks, no stress, etc.? Perfect genome?

However the God was not so far from cloning.

Best not to question such things......better to just be stupid and never advance as a society.

I don't think genetics had been invented back then. Genetics, random mutation, recombination, genetic drift and natural selection are the work of the Devil.
