I want to install windows xp home edition and I can't because it says I have a newer version of windows. I don't want it, how do I delete the windows on my computer. If I don't learn how I would have bought the os disk for nothing. Please tell me how.

To 'uninstall' Windows, you need to wipe your hard drive. This is known as Formating and can be done in a number of ways.

The first way is to boot to your Windows XP CD, run through the first steps of the setup procedure, then when it asks you which hard disk you'd like to install XP on, you select the drive with Windows already on in, and press "F" to format.

You then select the drive again, and hit enter to format/install Windows XP Home.

Once you put in the disk it will automatically have an install program ready. Just read what it says and format the hard drive when doing the install. It will get rid of everything and the new OS will then install.

i dont think you can't overwrite a newer version, but you can back-up everything in your harddrive and reformat it and install the home edition it's a bit of a hard-work but if you want the os disk to be a worth something, i guess trying that isnt such a bad idea.

Just install it right over and it should say, do you want to install your current Windows? Or something like that i think. Put in your windows disk and see if that does anything to.
