20 yrs ago he used to drink and do drugs excessively....is any of that related? We've tried vitamin E oil and lotions and creams on the skin, but nothing seems to help soften it for any length of time. Any suggestions??

Try a lotion that's made specifically for cracked, dry feet. Look for an ingredient called "urea" (or "chemically synthesized urea"). That helps the skin keep moisture from escaping into the air, and it's been great on my elbows. Urea occurs naturally in our skin, but if we don't have enough, it may cause dry skin. Use it every day and within a week you'll be surprised at the difference. Urea is also used to treat eczema.

Is it also white and scaly? It could be a severe case of psoriasis or eczema. You might also see it develop on knees and on finger knuckles or toe knuckles. Essentially, anywhere there's a joint. You should see a doctor about it because they can prescribe ointments or creams that can really get it under control. Depending on what it is, the doctor will prescribe something like Elidel, Temesvorate, or Clobetasol Propionate.

And no, it's not related to any alcohol or drug.

Dry skin always so irritating...I hate it so much...I suggest you try using Zenmend Derma Lotion from Zenmed or Autopalm from Skinstore.com.

Zenmed has no side effects and it's non-irritant to the
skin. It's proven to works fast and it povides Maximum
results! It's certainly a good lotion to prevent further
outbreaks.

Another product that I think is effective is Atopalm. This dry skin mlm is one of the best seller at skinstore.com now. (Skinstore.com holds more than 10,000 skin care products) It's pretty effective, and worth the dollar paid out.

Or he may want to consider some dry skin remedies...http://www.dry-skin-care-guide.com/home-remedies-for-dry-skin.html

He should drink a lot of water, use a moisturizer regularly, and avoid leaning on his elbows. If that doesn't improve the situation, it might be eczema or psoriasis; he should see a doctor.

could be psoriasis... which is relatively harmless... but a bit painful and annoying... see a dermatologist if you're worried.
