I mean, why the cross? Thousands of people have been crucified other than Jesus and the Bible never says that the symbol of Christianity should be a torture device. I think perhaps the symbol of Christianity should be the way true Christians behave - like Jesus Christ himself.

The cross is not an appropriate symbol for christianity. This is not in any way devaluing what happenned on the cross, it's just that Jesus didn't stay on the cross. The romans put him in a grave, but He got up!

Too many people are stuck at the cross of repentance, when there is a resurrection and new life awaiting them.

I think I understand what you mean, but the cross is important because that was the means by which the sins of mankind were paid for. If Christ had not died on the cross, the penalty would still be yours to pay, which, according to Eph. 2:8,9 and Titus 3:5, is impossible. When other people were crucified, they died. When Christ was crucified, we now live. On top of that He rose again from the dead. As far as Christ Himself being a symbol: that would be great, but we don't know what He looked like and if we did, knowing human nature (cf. w/ children of Israel), we would end up worshipping His image rather than Who He is. The cross is a gruesome sight, but were it not for the cross, I'd still be lost.

...hmmm good point but no one on Earth knows what Jesus Christ really looked like. Any how it is just a symbol, which stands for the ultimate price Christ paid for us. He gave his life, and rose from the grave once again proving his deity. Have a nice day! =)

It's just a reminder for Christians that the cross is empty, and Jesus rose again. It's not really the official "symbol" of Christianity, it's just something that some people hold sacred. Actions are not symbols so your last statement doesn't make sense.

There IS not appropriate symbol for Christianity. Look at the 10 Commandments! The cross is a graven image!

The cross simply symbolizes Christ's ultimate act of love. His dying on the cross cleansed the whole world of sin. He died so we could live without the burden of sin.

We Christians do not worship the cross, but use it as a reminder of what Jesus Christ gave up - His Life - and all for the love of mankind.

The Cross or Crucifix was chosen by the Catholics. The followers of Christs teachings, through Paul used the Fish as a Symbol, with IXOYE.
Fish being represenatative of the Fish and Loaves sermon on the mount.

It's not the best symbol, but Jesus Christ said that we must pick up our "cross" and follow him. Jesus said it way before he died, knowing how he was going to die. So the Cross should and could be a continual reminder to us that he died for us so we could live for Him.

The perfect man, Jesus, shead his blood on that cross which washes away sin from us. Our only way to God is Jesus and his crucifiction was payment so we could spend forever in a perfect place with God in heaven. So yes it is a symbol that reminds us of the only way to have eternal life after death on earth.

Fix not your eyes on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, and what is unseen is forever. 2 Corinthians 4:18

Simply because like many other things Cristianity took pagans traditions for thier own and pretend they are one who invented. Cross was symbol long before Cristianity could even think of a such thing but they would not be able to relaise it that they stoll the idea from others , same as Easter its not their tradition.
Therefore GOD exists.
