I'm getting married in a Catholic wedding. Some of my bridesmaids have tattoo's. Can they show their tattoo's in the church, or do I need to get cover kits or a shaw for the dresses? Please help!

I wouldn't worry about it. The Catholic Church does not have anything official concerning exposed tatoos inside a Catholic Church.

In my opinion, any attempt to cover them up might actually draw more attention than they would if they were left visible.

I would say it really all depends on the tatoos themselves. Do any of your brides maids have tatoos that might be offensive to the Catholic Church itself? If so, I would say cover them. If not, don't worry about it.

It sort of depends on the tattoos. If they're small, somewhat out of the way, and general designs like roses or...whatever, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, although you're still better off getting something like a shawl or jacket to go with the dresses and asking the bridesmaids to wear them at least for the church ceremony. If they have numerous, or possibly offensive tattoos, I would definitely ask them to cover up with something. If they refuse to show that level of respect, you might want to reconsider if you really want them as your attendants.

Good luck, and congratulations!

The Catholic church does not have any official stand against it. But here is MY philosophy: Do what YOU feel comfortable with. If you wish to honor God by getting tattoo, then you should do it. If you want to get a secular tattoo, again, you should do it. Remember, Jesus loves all of us. Those with tattoos, and those without. Anyway, if you are really in doubt, ask your local priest for the official answer.

My brother was married in the Catholic church, and I was a bridesmaid. I have a tattoo on my left shoulder that didn't show, but my soon-to-be sister-in-law still wanted the bridesmaids to wear shawls just to make sure I'd have it covered during the wedding. She didn't want it showing up in photos.

I'm not catholic but God already knows the tattoos are there. If you don't want the tattoos in your pictures then yes get something to cover them.

Tattoos in any church (regardless of what society thinks) are not sinful one bit. The issue is one of preference of you as to whether you want them to show the tattoos or not.

It's your wedding. It's your choice. Biblically, there is nothing wrong with it.

There should be a certain amount of modesty in a Catholic wedding; there is really no reason for improper attire. Bridesmaid dresses should not be immodest, for a church is the house of God.

However, tattoos in and of themselves are not a problem. Your guests do not need to worry about this.

Just because you are in a church doesn't mean that you can't have tattoos. It shouldn't matter at all, but I think that you should discuss it with your fiance and see how he feels.

Im in Italy and I know tattoos are ok to show, but never the shoulders, midriff, or skirts above the knees.
