Your computer doesn't understand ANY kind of file. The software you install in it does. *.png files might be opened with M$ Internet exploder or picture view (Kodak imaging).
You could install a freeware program I use for a lot of time and I'm very satisfied of: it's called IrfanView. It also supports plug-ins. Can do batch conversions/transformations on images, display/print almost any graphic file... and more!

what format are they currently in? Many computer programs and cameras save pictures in jpeg format. You have to first know what format they're in already to be able to determine how to convert them

You go and edit your picture and when you are done(youdont have to do anything) just push save as and go to the drop box and pick jpeg.

don't, jpeg is lossy...(depend son how you convert it..there is such a thing as HQ JPEG that's as good as PNG...) if it;'s a PC running WINDOWS it should recognize it... you can always use paint....MSPAINT

If you have photoshop on your computer, it will open .png files.
Then, you can convert the files to .jpg.
