The most predominant difference between the two? Devil's food usually contains a greater proportion of chocolate. It got its name because it is so good it is a sin to eat it.

Devil's food cake already has chocolate in it; except vanilla or strawberry flavors. Cake and chocolate is not the same, especially the texture.
