Usually to capture analog video, rather than digital, you'll have to get some extra hardware. Pinnacle Studio 500-PCI version 10.5 and Pinnacle Studio 500-USB version 10.5 each include a device to convert analog video into digital. The software also has DVD authoring capabilities. The Circuit City store near me carries these products. Pinnacle video software is fairly inexpensive ($80 to $100). For specifications about the software and hardware they make, visit the website which I have included in my sources. I wouldn't buy Nero like someone suggested above, as it seems like less powerful software from a like less reliable company for about the same price. If you need to do more complex video editing and you are using a PC, try Sony Vegas. It can capture digital video and it can be purchased in a bundle that includes powerful DVD authoring software as well.

You have to have a TV Tuner card or some other capture hardware device to get analog video from a source like a VCR, TV, etc. If you don't have one, I recommend something from http://www.hauppauge.com/

They usually come with some kind of software that is pretty easy to use.

You would need a Video Editor program with a capture feature on it. I believe WMM has that capability but have never used that program for that. I use SYNET HT for all of my clips transferred from my video camera.
