I work in an open heart unit, & can only comment about that...I know nothing about Architecture. If you want to perform open heart surgery, you would have to become a Cardiothoracic surgeon. A Cardiologist is a doctor who performs cardiac catherizations & deals with pretty much every day heart issues (Congestive Heart Failure, Atrial Fibrillation, etc). A Cardiologist will consult the CT surgeon if he thinks a patient needs surgery (either a coronary artery bypass graft, valve replacements, etc.). A CT surgeon also does surgery on the carotid arteries and lungs, among other things. If you want to know more in detail the average day of a CT surgeon, I would be more than happy to tell you. Happy choosing!!

You need to go to medical school and gain the primary medical qualifications of the Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (usually variations of MB ChB, MB BS etc dependant on the awarding univerisity) .
You then need to do your foundation course in medicine for the first 3 years, of which at that time you will called a Senior House Officer. You then take prelim tests in medicine called the 'MRCP' or Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2 parts. When you have passed this you can take up a Specialist Registrar position as a cardiologist in training. After 6-8 years as a registrar you gain a certificate of Completion of Specialist Trainining in general medicine and cardiology (dual qualification) and have the right to take up a consultant position in the UK.

You need to get good A levels and apply to medical school. After 5 years you qualify as a doctor. Then you have more years working as a House Officer in various specialities. You then have to apply for a job on the next rung which is Senior House Officer. The next stage would be to become a registrar which requires further qualifications for MRCP. All this time you would be working in the field of cardiology (SHO onwards). To become a consultant you will have to have experience as a registrar and be lucky enough to be a successful applicant for any vacancy.
You have a long hard slog ahead of you. Good luck
