Choose the kind of exercise/sport you love and get a good buddy to join in the fun! You can have a little healthy competition between yourselves to do 50 push ups etc. Start with a reasonable goal and increase the pace/speed/repetition gradually.
Stick with it and you'll get the results you want.
Good luck!

Sometimes the problem isn't getting motivated to start - it's to keep it up.
Some tips that have helped me:
Start a routine. If you have a routine to go to the gym every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday after work you can make the effort to stick with it. If on a certain day you don't feel like going, tell yourself that you have to and get your butt in the car. You'll know you'll feel good about going afterwards. In time, the routine becomes automatic, even if you have to force yourself to get started.
Find a friend who is interested in the same routine that you are. If you know that you'll let your friend down if you don't show up it's easier to get yourself to go.
Do something that you enjoy. Maybe you hate running, but you think swimming is fun. Then start a swimming routine instead of a running routine.
Add variety. Maybe one day you swim, the next day you lift weights and on the third day you participate in a yoga class. Variety helps keep you from getting bored.
Keep a journal of your progress. If your goal is to loose weight, keep track of your weight loss. If your goal is to build endurance, keep track of how far you can go. Progress is a great motivator.

In all seriousness, I started jogging through a nearby cemetery. Trust me, the motivation gets there quickly.

Start slow. Set goals for yourself along the way that don't involve food. Be consistent...exercise when you don't feel like it.

Find an exersize you actually like.
You don't have to go to a gym and work out.
You can ride a bike, play tennis, or swim, to name a few.
