It depends on what you are hooking up to it.

No, you don't have to buy a HD DVD player, but you didn't have to buy a HDTV either...

If you are unsure of how to hook it up or get the settings right, then hire an installer to do it for you.

You paid a couple of thousand dollars to get the tv, don't be afraid to spend a couple of hundered to get the most out of it.

call your cable company, they will walk you through it over phone or send a tech for smallest amount of money...assuming you have cable.

God help you if you have satellite TV...

Actually it's really not that difficult & the manual from TV or their customer service may also be useful. Tons of help on line as well.
